CounterAct Rust!

Has anybody heard of or tried the product called counteract? I just saw it on Two Guys Garage and what it is is 2 contact pads go on the car, one on one side of the back of the car and one on the opposite side of the front of the car. Then you hook up the control box and it sends electrical pulses through the body of the car through the contacts that make everything neutral so it don't rust. It sounds freakin' cool!

I'll try to find out more info. on it and get back to you all.

I have something just like that on one of my cars. It does the same thing. I don't know the name brand, but I will find out and post it here. It is supposed to keep the car from rusting.

Sounds more like a hoax to me.

Does it charge your battery too?

Hard to imagine how an electriconic gadget could arrest oxidation and corrosion. The only thing that will prevent rust is protecting metal from the elements. And once it starts, the only way to stop it is removal.

WOW! that's pretty cool! I was just reading the counteract site and saw they did lab testing on it here in Akron and at Kent State University. Hometown tested. Now I'm buying one

Man, the copy on that site is nothing more than a raft of dense, techno-doublespeak nonsense. Familiar with the old saying, "If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is"? Save your money and forget about this foolishness.

They seem to imply that the device induces a static charge on the metal, hoping that the excess of "surface" electrons will prevent the iron from losing any. If you have access to a Van de Graaff generator and a few pieces of sheetmetal, you could probably experiement and find out for yourself if it works or not. If nothing else, it'll entertain the kids with long hair.

The body will always be at the same potential as the negative pole of the battery - unless you disconnect all the earth straps.

Why does galvanic protection seem too good to be true?

In the case of zinc electroplating, it most definitely works. This process has been used for many decades as a sacrificial protection layer. First, the zinc will corrode yielding white corrosion. Once all of the zinc is depleted, the steel will begin to corrode(iron oxide, red corrosion).
