If the clutch position switch is wired up like in my write up, them the ECU already thinks its in Neutral when the clutch is pressed...maybe this is why I've never had the stalling issue when stopping. (also allows the Cruise control to work)

I thing the Speed-O problem is most likely a bad connection, not the sensor itself, since they had to have a section added into the original wire loom for it to reach the correct location on the manual tranny.

hope this helps,

sounds like a short in the main harness going to the tranny...must have a bare wire somewhere....

i was also thinking it was a bad connection b/c it was just twisted together and taped like they were rushing to finish. Anyway, i butt end connected all the wires to ensure a solid connection and still no go. I also made sure that all the wires were going to the correct ones on the plug. i am searching jurk yards for a new sensor but have yet to find one. Oh, should I be looking for a sensor for the legacy or SVX? Any other suggestions to what could be causing the speedo to fail? btw every once and a while, it will jump up and down while driving for a few seconds but then bail out again. just letting u know incase this could mean something.

The sensor has to be out of a SVX, as the legacy just uses a cable, the sensor screws in where the cable attaches and takes it's place.

they may not have the sensor seated into the transmission correctly, or enough.

Just some things to look at....

Here's to hoping you don't have to open up the tranny to replace any gears specific to the VSS.

Tom,
Did you check to see if it was seated correctly in the tranny?

Whats your 5 speed out of? I got some spare VSS's but they don't really fit in the WRX trannys. They do work in the older Legacy trannys though. Go redo the wireing first to make sure the connection is good. Once thats all set if you still have a problem make sure the VSS is in all the way. If thats OK then let me know, I got one for ya.

I've had a few idle problems, mostly stuck high idle on morning start up. Shutting it off and starting it again would take care of it. I've never had a stalling or hunting idle problem though.

awsome suba freak, this trans is out of an older legacy w/ matching 4.11 gears. I will check tomorrow to see if it is seated properly and get back to you.
