PUSHING OUT dipstick

I have been leaking oil thru valve cover (tried Beav FIX with O - rings, but didn't work) >> Saw comment (again) about checking PCV valve ("IS DIPSTICK BEING PUSHED OUT?") >> Decided to replace PCV valve just to make sure that type of pressure wasn't causing MORE leakage. Then the oil dipstick POPPED OUT!

I think it's just coincidental, but you can understand my concern/confusion! [ I REPLACED A HARDENING/LOOSENING O-RING ON THE DIPSTICK - I hope that was the reason!].

What do you guys think? [ I have to do right side valve cover gasket >> It's leaking about ONE QUART OIL (Redline $8/qt) every 2 weeks (~800 miles).

BTW, it's also leaking major power steering fluid [CAN'T FIND LEAK!! >> all around fluid lines on right side engine/side and rear]. Got any tricks on how I can locate this leak. [BOTH engine oil and PS fluid leaks are obvious on dipsticks (I was hoping engine oil leak was stopped after Beav FIX, but both dipsticks indicating fairly major leaks still.]

PLEASE GIMME YUR PINIONS! THANKS!

Hmmm...My oil dipstick moves out by itself about an inch and a half. That sounds very strage. Does this mean I may have a problem with oil pressure, or something??? I damn well hope not!

As far as the oil dipstick moving out, you can just get a new O-ring and that will usually solve the problem. It has on all of mine and other members cars.

PS leaking could be the O-ring on the bottom of the holding tank, or a hose. The hoses start to fail about this time because of age. Many members have had both pressure lines leak or blow, or even hose clamps give out and allow the hose to come loose. I would clean up the engine and surrounding areas, and then watch for where the leaks develop. Good luck, I know how this can get old quick.

I'd just had an PS return-line-hose-popoff

If you are able to feel with your hand where the returnline hose is (where the turbo sits in a old Suby) , you can tell if it's all wet with oil or not.

Mine was actualy loose! , the clamp was not tightened enough.

Down here ....

P- for Pressure hose, and R- for Return hose

LEAKY!

Thanks guys for some good ideas!

For the guys with the popping up dipsticks, I've been told it's often indicator of faulty PCV valve (which can cause increased engine blowby pressure). Easy to replace.

How did it pop out? Did the hose pop off the valve?

Power Steering Fluid PLUS rt side valve cover oil leak!

I can't figure where (big!) power steering leak is coming from SINCE RT SIDE OIL LEAK FROM VALVE COVER may also be contributing to "everything" being oil wet at the rear of rt side of engine.

Please give me most likely places (esp if it's the pressure line) that might leak, since the source has not been locate-able even after cleaning most "oil" from that rt rear area under engine before checking! My pressure line is somewhat wet, but I don't know if it's wet enough to cause this wide distribution?

I need to figure out this power steering fluid situation, since it's leaking about 8 or 10 oz. a week!

HHHHEEEEEEELLLLLPPP!!!! THANKS!

P.S. I got a new PS pump and pressure line about 2 years ago.

P.P.S. Sonny, I can't figure your photos, because my HP line is in a different place ???

I had a pinhole in my pressure line and it drove me crazy for a long time. I finally cleaned the whole engine compartment and then let it dry. I started the car and kept looking and still didn't see it until I had someone turn the steering wheel while I looked under the hood. I found where the oil was and then wiped it dry. Then kept looking until I found it. It was not an easy thing to find. It sure is nice to get that suff fixed. Good luck with it.

You may not be able to actually see the leak as it may be concealed under the metal crimp like mine was. I was able to have a new line made for me instead of going to an expensive Subaru one.
