Sorry, the banana thing just slipped out. By the way, is a "Teeny weeny yellow polka dot bikini", yellow? Or are the polka dots yellow?
Randy's right. I do gotta get a life. Ron.

OK....I see the light; no more beating around the bush. After the week I've had, I do feel a bit burned out. Just spare me the Kurt comments.... Don

I like it a lot. Much more accurate than the last. No doubt you will get the whole 57 channels on that one.

dark side of the Moon [not Jamsvx ]

Don

Only slightly OT in the light of James' tanning position; I am willing to bet that the first viable moon station will be on the dark side. This because it would be a fabulous location for astronomical observation of light, microwave and radio signals, without interference from the Earth or it's atmosphere.

A joint co-operative between US, Europe, Russia, Japan and possibly China would be a wonderful step forward for mankind as a whole.

Can't wait

Joe

The dark side of the Force...

< I am willing to bet that the first viable moon station will be on the dark side>

I agree completely. However I must put in my .02 about the "dark side". I know you used it as only a figure of speech, but to those who believe there IS a dark side of the moon need to be informed that "there aint no such critter".(sorry, all you Pink Floyd fans) "Farside" of the moon would be a better choice of words.

Due to the fact that the moon rotates on its axis at the same speed that it revolves around the Earth, only one side ever faces the Earth. The most we ever see of it, allowing for a extra peek due to axis tilt, is when the moon is full. That is the same face that is in total darkness when we are in a "New Moon" phase. At that time of the month, the "darkside" is actually totally illuminated. You would just have to be between the Earth and the Sun and looking back towards us to see it!

A location on the farside, as you indicated Joe, would be an ideal location to escape the "electromagnetic pollution" of Earth; it just be illuminated by the Sun off and on during the month!
------------
Be sure to be with us next week boys and girls, when Captain Smartypants opens his mailbag again and answers....."Is there such a thing as a "Blue" Moon?"

Accuracy in media...

Yep, the whole Platinum Package! Great for countries that don't have a Telly-ban.

At the dedication ceremony in August 2000, they asked us to listen quitely to the loudspeakers....which began to "Thump.....Thump.....Thump" with tremendous power...(almost as much as the local kid with his 15in woofers in the trunk)
...it was the signal from a Pulsar halfway across the known Universe...the "First Light" of the GBT dish....converted from radio to audio for our listening pleasure..

Actually, postings involving astronomy are not really too far off-topic for this site. The stellar connections to our car and the company emblem are well known. I stumbled (ouch! Muffin, do you HAVE to sit right in the doorway? ) onto this as I navigated the strands of the Web tonight...

Just up the road from Canaan next weekend, Blackwater Falls is hosting an "Astronomy Weekend". I think I'll call and get some details. How many of you have seen the "Seven Sisters" through a good scope of pair of binoculars? If you haven't, you are in for a real treat!! Don

I never saw the "Seven Sisters", but I did use binoculars to catch Mrs. Webster & her two daughters skinny dippin' in the family pool once. 'Twas an "Anatomy Weekend" fer shur!

Ladies and gentlemen, we apologize for the careening from the original topic that has ensued. We now return you to the "First Australian Drive Day" thread originally scheduled for this spot.

Hey Don,

You may be mixing your metaphors here. Pillar to post is one way to go, but you are debating whether to pillory, or to post.

Ron is doing it too. We stray a wee bit OT on an astronomical subject, and Ron comes back on an anatomical subject.

BTW Ron, a scope is better for skinnydipping watch than binoculars. You don't notice your hand shaking so much with the tripod.

Joe
