Thumbs up Happy Tranny Story (Long)

Those of you who've hung around with me these past couple of years have known my transmission adventures. Well it looks like I've finally gotten a break on the "Mysterious Legacy Tranny."

Steve Wasion (wasions) was standing by his SVX this morning when a young man walked up and said something like, "wow, I drove one of those around the parking lot at my work one day after we put a transmission in it." Steve said, "was it white?" The guy said, "yeah." Steve said, "was it a Legacy tranny?" The guy (I think, reluctantly) said, "yeah." Steve said, "where are you gonna be?"

To shorten the story (just a little bit), after I arrived this morning at Autofest, Steve told me he'd like to introduce me to the fellow who had put the Legacy tranny in my car. I think the look on my face may have frightened Steve, because he said, "well, it wasn't HIM, but he knows who did." So, I went to talk to the young gentleman (nice guy -- he and his wife were displaying their 260 Z), and after talking a bit found that the tranny came from a 92 or 93 Legacy wagon, but, that's not the best part. He told me if I called a particular person at the place where he worked, he could tell me EXACTLY which car it came out of. Not only that, I found that the guy who KNOWS, is a friend of the son of one of my co-workers (who also worked with us for a while), and, the fellow I was speaking with was also a freind of his -- ain't that wild. So, now, I'll be able to put it on e-bay and be able to sell the sucker after all this time --- WHOOPEE!

So, Autofest wasn't just a good time with some great SVXers, it (hopefully) will net me a little "recovery" money from my tranny woes. I'm a happy (but tired) camper!

I hope I didn't fail to say, "thank you." If so, "THANK YOU!" If not, "THANK YOU" again!

PS: Ready for another round of Souvla?

Wink

I think the concept of "six degrees of separation" somehow applies here.

Randy,
Did you ask him why they put the legacy tranny in the SVX -- and if they test the car for AWD operation? I'd love to see the answer to that. But finally your legacy tranny is going! Congrets.

According to them, "it looked like it would bolt up." The decided that it would, even though their computer told them it wouldn't work. So, I can't be too angry with the lot ownere . . . any more. The guy said that the lot owner was probably as mislead as any of them since no one knew anything about the car. The work was actually done at a salvage yard. The Legacy tranny was used (how used, no one can say) before it went in, so, the fact that it died nearly a year after it was put in is not surprising. I'll talk to the the guy who REALLY knows today.

Yippee! Just found out that my orphan tranny had a momma: 1991 Legacy, Non-turbo, 4:11 ratio! Now, anybody wanna buy a tranny from a '91 Legacy, non-turbo with a 4:11 ratio?

For about the fifth time I'll ask:

How much do you want for it?

Okay (although I thought I PM'd you the last time -- but it would't be the first time I thought I'd PM'd you and it didn't happen), I'm only asking for 800.00 plus actual shipping to your location. I paid little over 1600 for the rebuild, not including labor. I've attached a copy of the original bill for your perusal. There were only 10,000 miles put on it and, of course, about half of those were for the VT/Snowshoe meets. PM me and let me know.

No, your PMs have gotten through as far as I know...I just hadn't looked at my PMs at the time you said 'you have my cell phone number.'

Thanks.

Oh, and just in case, I have a scan of the second bill which shows the mileage on the car when the "Legacy Rebuild" was replaced. It actually shows a little less than 10K.

Randy,

Great news. Too bad it took you this long to find out. Especially since the person or persons were right under your nose the whole time.

Happy tranny story [short]

Randy
Congrats. You sell the box, buy a bottle of that nice Blanton's out of the proceeds, you deserve it.

Tonight, I have driven my SVX with all 4 forward gears working! Yippeeeeeeeee!!!!!
I was going to be more effusive, but I am not 20 anymore.

Pat, my Master Tech [hope he sees this, he hasn't billed me yet!] could not fit the '96 box to my '91 engine because of a technicality. So he stripped out the '91 box and put the internals of the good '96 box[OK, OK, tranny] into my original housing, and wired the necessaries into my loom. Result: everything works. My power switch [Honourable Japanese spec] works, manual works, everything works. I could have kissed him. But, he also is a biker, they [we] are liable to misinterpret these things.

I will do a more comprehensive outline of what was involved in another post, put it out on Yahoo too. I am sure there are a lot of people who could save themselves maybe $2000 if they can buy a good tranny off a wreck. Bottom line, it works.

As the dyslexic said, there is a Dog.

Joe

Joe, that really is the dog's bollocks! I know you've been waiting for this for donkey's years. Enjoy the fact that your box is giving you the full monty. Again, that's the mutt's nuts. Cheerio!
