Talking 2003 Subaru SVX

Well guys, it has pretty much been confirmed by Motortrend. There will be an SVX re-introduced in 2003. I've better start saving my pennies! Read more at www.motortrend.com/future/2003_2.html

Hmmmm

I wonder how much of our original styling will remain. Based on an Impreza WRX body seems a bit small to me.

Does this mean down the road we open more forums for SVX generation 2?

All that means is that each and everyone of our cars is even that much more special. If it is just more special to us then so be it. If you as an individual dont like the new one don't buy it. And i speak to everyone who loves the current SVX.

Mine is special and will remain so to me. Now if Subaru wants to make a better SVX then maybe I am up for it. but come on there is no way in hell that's going to happen.

Ciao

I believe Autoweek scooped everyone with a similar statement last Spring. It's a shame there is no more details other than it is based on the Impreza chassis.

Think maybe we will get a sneak peek in Indiana next summer? Don

I really want to keep my SVX forever! There can never be another car like it. They can try but they will never get close. Just the rusting proofing alone that was done in the SVX seems to me to be way over board! The SVX has beautiful lines! The way the windows blend into the roof is like no other car.

"Quirky eighties grand tourer?!"

Where Motortrend been? I have yet to see an 80's SVX.

And the XT may be quirky, the SVX definately is not. If it was, it's quirks (smooth engine, climate control, traction control) certainly seem to have come to the fore.

MT needs to do its homework.

I am also a doubting Thomas here. There seems to be a general rejuvenation in the "supercar" market with a lot of very nice cars in development. Some of them are relatively affordable, most are not. Remains to be seen how many make the trip from drawing board to market in the current economic climate.

Selling big coupes new is a rarified market also. By definition, they need to be fast, if not furious, have road presence, be comfortable and luxurious, and are generally handsome or pretty. For me, at the upper end of this chain, Porsche has all the bases covered. At the lower end, ordinary family saloons are now so quick, there is no need to look for something faster or more powerful. I hope I will not offend WRX owners by saying this, but they epitomise what I am talking about here. To me they are just turbocharged shopping trolleys.

This leaves very little middle marketing ground for the traditional coupe market to exploit. With the low numbers the SVX originally sold, and considering most of us here would place it in the top ten, if not top five, cars in the world, Fuji would need some major optimists aboard to risk doing another one. On the other hand, all they really need to do is give it a well cooled 5 speed auto or Tiptronic, put in different[better] wheel bearings, and ask Senor Giugiaro to revamp the bodywork a bit. We'd all buy one.

Oh, a bit more interior space would be nice, and better front seats. That's it!! Letter to Santa finished!

Joe

Correct!! And some room in the dashboard to add in extra gauges, ICE, possibly a radar detector.

Same here. I have talked to the japanese official that design and gives the ok for the impreza in Chicago. He told me that they (Subaru) is not going to bring in another 2 door coupe and that they can not compete in that market -- or something like that. I will believe it when I see a prototype on the road.

Perhaps if I take out my lights and paint my car matt black and drive around detroit, a picture might come out in the mags down the line What do you all think?

Seraphims 2003 Prototype

Lwin,
You paint your car flat back and drive it out here to Detroit and I'd be happy to take some slightly blurry pictures of it and send it to the magazines

Yep autoweek scooped it. I found a whole bunch of these articles a few months back when I dug up their article. They said it was going to be a Audi TT competitor if you guys remember.

Guys,

This is a standard obfuscation technique. Plant a sketchy story that points one way. And get everyone to look that way and speculate on the story. While everyone is doing that, you have the room and anonimity to do something completely different.

The perfect example of this is that "flying saucers" are flown by little green/gray aliens from outer space. In reality; the only people operating "flying saucers" are test pilots from the good ole' US of A.

Seems that the car companies have actually learned something from the government.
