My SVX assaulted!
This is actually old news, but the event occured the evening of September 10 and what happened 12 hours later kind of overshadowed it in importance....
I got off work around 5:00 on Monday 9/10 and walked up to my company's parking garage. I had parked the SVX in one of my usual spots, on the end of a row where there would be no chance of door dings. I approached my car from the rear and noticed that it was backed in at nearly a 45 degree angle. Parking on the end of the row allowed me a lot of extra space to park in, but I didn't think I had done that bad a job at lining it up straight. Must have been really tired that morning. The next thing I noticed was a bright green piece of paper on the windshield - no doubt a nasty note from a fellow worker or security about my lousy parking job. Instead, it read something like this: "I hit your car. Please call ****" It was only then that I looked down right in front of me and actually saw the damage! My car had been hit in the front driver's side corner, from the looks of the damage by a truck coming around the corner too fast and carelessly. The fender was crunched in and the turn signal was obliterated, a few pieces spread out into the garage. The bumper covering was scratched, cut in places, and torn loose. And the car had been moved into that drastic angle by the impact! Needless to say, I was angry, but also grateful they had left a number. I called the number and they were very sorry and had already set up a claim for me with their insurance company. By 6:00 I had already called the insurance, given my info, and got set up to get an estimate. That all kind of got put on hold with what happened the next morning, but it is finally all settled. My preferred body shop gave a higher estimate than the insurance company liked, but when they sent their own appraiser out yesterday to look at my car, she came back with $100 higher! So of course I'll go with hers since they wanted it so bad! The final damage: $2100. A lot more than one would think, but since they have to use a new bumper and fender, there is a lot of paint blending work involved and that means labor hours. And if there is any good out of this, I will be basically getting the whole front end repainted for free. And to save a little $$$, I am ordering some parts from subaruparts.com myself, leaving the extra from the estimate to replace the signals with clear euro spec ones (thanks John!) and possibly a stevesby bumper. I would find that moron and beat the crap out of him/her for driving like an idiot or not knowing how to drive. Sorry to hear that.

Looks like you were fairly lucky, considering. The hood looks good. That would have been a big expense. Was the wheel scratched? Is the front end alignment still in?
You'll live. It's a car. A pretty outstanding car, but a car nonetheless. Count your blessings. Steve

Mac, I feel your pain. Just recently got my L/F fender fixed. Looks darned good, though. The body shop did a great job.
A few words of advice, though, from my recent experience. Ask them to mask off your fender wells. My well liner has white overspray on it and it bugs me. Also, the "grid" work in the lower part of the front airdam (on mine anyway) is supposed to be black. Nobody masked it when they painted it before I bought it, so, it's white and the white paint don't wanna stick. I'll be doing some touch-up for Autofest. Also, the lip below my front airdam was not masked and the white paint is chipping off it, also. Don't let them skimp on masking.

Last spring I hit a deer. Actual the deer ran in front of my car. The hood was replaced and the left head light. I also got the rear bunper jacket repainted at the same time. The total cost was about $4,000. Similar to what RJ said. I have some white over spray in the engine compartment. Very light and hardly noticeable until one looks real close and then a lot of little white spots.

Yes, I was in the vehicle as this happened. Fortunatly, I was the only one in the car.
Hit a utility pole at ~50 MPH, supposedly because the right front tire blew out. I don't remember much of what happened -- I was on my way home from the dealer, and the next thing I knew, I was laying on a stretcher in the E.R. with friends pulling twigs and glass off of me. Managed to get away with only a few scratches, spent the night in the hospital for observation. Much like was mentioned earlier, I'm thankful for my life, and the SVX 'was just a car'. But it's a car that, to this day, I miss with all of my heart. *sniffle* --Adam |

Adam! Good to have you here. You are a living, walking, breathing testament to the safety worthiness of the SVX. Keep heart, and keep looking for another SVX. Although I know how hard it will be to drive one when you find one. I've test driven Spitfires since I totalled mine in '96. It's somewhat discomforting while driving, but, I will, one day, own another. Again, good to "see" you here at the Network. Make yourself at home.
