sweet jeebus! i forgot what good brakes were like!

my buddy just got his '76 911 Targa finished - new paint, interior, tune-up, etc, and took me for a ride. i forgot what dem Porsche brakes were like!!!! i didn't know the 'old-school' ones could stop like that, too!!!! he almost broke my neck!.

i encourage anyone who thinks the SVX has good braking to take a drive in a Porsche. straight line acceleration and great cornering ability is cool and all, but i can't elaborate enough about how your whole driving experience will change when you have brakes that will rip the teeth from your mouth! too much fun. try it. i remember how i had to completely change my driving style once i got the SVX - it just didn't stop 'right'. oh well, go take a test drive!

I agree. I know the SVX brakes are 'adequate', but they don't have that whole 'tossing an anchor out of the back' feel to them. I think stiffer springs would really really help.... as I think the SVX STOPS reasonably well, but I think it nosedives just a tad, which doesn't make it feel as .... 'right'.

Are your brakes stock or have you got the ss lines on as well as aftermarket rotors. I know that has helped a lot. And NO, it still is not like some of the brakes out there on other cars.

i have fresh brake fluid, SS hoses and ART rotors, but still not even in the same league unfortunately. these were stock brakes from 1976!
i had visions of a 944 turbo project last night, then i remembered how much of a pain having a winter beater is.

I'll say it again, If you're so dissatisfied with your svx, you should probably sell it and get a Porsche. They make those in AWD, too.

Mike.

who said DIS-satisfied? i'm satisfied......just not blown away.

AWD Carrera 4's are a little more expensive than SVX's. i think you should sell your Cavalier and get a Neon.

My SVX stops like a champ. Teeth ripping out of the head sensation and everything.

Upgraded rotors, fresh fluid, stock (oem) pad... and Koni/GC suspension. The suspension made an incredible difference in braking feel, it's all linear and immediate now.

When I lay on the brakes it's like, "Whoa!"

the only problem is, for the price of the SVX performance suspension and big brake kit, you could buy an entire 944 Turbo. i like my SVX, but i'm not sinking $6000 or more into suspension and brakes.

HA! I KNEW IT! See, this is what I've been guessing the whole time. The car brakes fine, but it doesn't FEEL very confidence inspiring.

i guess it brakes 'fine', its just too bad this 3600 lb car doesn't brake 'unbelievably!'

i'm talking about the feeling that you ran into a brick wall. i forgot what it was like, and the SVX brakes aren't even close. no amount of suspension upgrades will do that, however that combined with a big brake kit might. it will just be very pricey, unfortunately.

Landshark, I have stopped my car from 100mph on a high altitude curvy road fast enough for my passenger to exclaim, "Holy ****! This thing has brakes!"

I actually have an early braking problem now, when I hit the brakes where my brain thinks I should need to stop slowing down, I end up too slow into the corner. I had to relearn the braking points and "wait, wait, wait, BRAKE! turn..."
