Yet another tranny question
In addition to my exhaust problem, I have noticed a delay when shifting from park to drive. This only happens when the car is cold. If the car warms up for just a few seconds this does not happen. Otherwise the car seems to shift fine. Is this common or something more ominous? I purchased the car about 3 months ago from a Ford dealership in Ohio, and they of course had no service history on the car.

I am ultra-paranoid about such things... I'd take it and have the line pressure tested... it may be early enough to change a TPS or resistor before the tranny smokes. it could also be the duty solenoid "A" which you can change without dropping the tranny.
How about reverse? also, will it hold a hill in drive at idle? Collins |

Duty solenoid A does go bad with time, but it cannot be responsible for dropping pressure below the normal idle pressure. If it is closed you will get max pressure, if it is open you will get normal idle pressure (regulated at 60psi forward, 80 reverse).
So it is one of the things you can exclude from the list of suspects |

I'd suggest you give a few more indications to gl1674, who seems pretty knowledgable on auto boxes.
In the olden days when US auto exhibited this kind of behavior it was usually attributed to internal seal leakage - meaning time to rebuild - sorry. |

I've been driving with this problem for almost 5yrs now. It does seem to happen more frequently for me. It is more of an annoyance than anything else. Sometimes i have to blip the gas peddle (rev it up a little) for it to catch.
