Well, it's done...
As those who've followed my posts of late will know, I have been considering the idea of "going it alone" in the IT field. Well, in a sense that's exactly what I've done effective today.
Yesterday afternoon I had a long discussion with my (now ex) CEO and I told him that I felt that the company and myself were going in different directions. I offered my two weeks notice, he decided not to take it. Now, I'll be the first to admit this is a scary time; I took a weeks' unpaid leave to consider my options, and I've got some new leads going for full-time jobs (some good ones too). I've also got good leads on 10-99 work that I can be doing, so I've yet to truly decide which route I'm going to take at this point. I guess that means all my options are currently open, and I'll take whatever grabs my fancy. Preferably before life grabs too hard at my pocketbook. Well, I just wanted to keep "the family" abreast of the latest happenings. I really hope this works out for me... but then none of us ever really know what's coming up next. I'll keep all up-to-date.

Gavin,
Great to hear things are going well. A door closes, a window opens. That's the way it seems to go. Please DO keep us informed.

Congrats on the move!
I did that myself a few years back and now I own a very successful IT consulting firm. May your future be bright and full of clients who pay in a timely fashion Doug

My sincerest thanks to all for your support. I'm sure I'll be hanging around the network a lot more in the next couple of weeks... hell, I've got time all of a sudden
Seriously though, yeah I agree with Randy that a door closes, a window opens. Actually, the irony is despite the current economic climate I seem to see a couple of windows open, I just have to figure out which of them I want to utilize as a door! Now of course there's some legal problems I think I'm going to have with my ex employer. He hasn't provided me a paycheck for the 15th, and he owes me a severance by the terms of my contract. Given the crap that I originally took the leave over (too detailed to get into here), technically he really "terminated" me on the 1st of July, just didn't tell me that. He's going to be thrilled when I send him an invoice for the work I did after the 1st (and can prove by the way). Since he's in breach of contract on so many levels at this point I may also sue him, but I know he'll just find a way to tie it up in court. Well anyway... this is a really messy situation that I'm going to have to figure through. Thankfully my lovely wife had the forethought to sign us up for pre-paid legal services about 6 months ago... I think I'll be calling them Monday. Anyhoo... I will of course keep posting in here to let people know how things are going. Take care all... I'll be around...
