I took the SVX to Ohio...

...of course, not under its own power.

Yesterday, Todd called me and said he'd have his tranny out in another '15 minutes' worth of work (famous last words, right, Todd? ). So my father-in-law drove up and we picked the tranny up leter that day. Using a trailer borrowed from his office, we took the car down to his garage in Findlay, Ohio. It's parked in between his two Karmann Ghias. There it will sit, with the tranny next to it, until this weekend. Amber and I plan to drive down there Friday night and stay there so her dad and I can get an early start on it Saturday morning.

I'll have to tape all my cartoons.

The car barely fit on the trailer. Since it had short sides all around, I couldn't open the door and had to crawl out through the window.

Hopefully that's the only time I ever have to do that in the SVX.

Well, I guess I could have crawled through the trunk. But I had already put the motorcycle jack (which I bought to put the tranny on) in there.

Hopefully by this time next week I'll be telling everybody that I drove it home.

Highway friggin' robbery

I just called Ann Arbor Subaru about a couple of parts that I may need for the SVX when I do the tranny swap this weekend. I was looking for a flex plate, since some members have found theirs cracked or broken, and the oil pan gasket.

Subaruparts.com wants 17.11 for the gasket and 28.68 for the flex plate.

Ann Arbor Subaru wants 31.43 for the gasket and 52.68 for the flex plate.

OW!

And they might not be able to get them this week.

I think I'll chance the flex plate and the gasket can probably wait until Subaruparts.com can get one to me.

To bad you are starting this weekend. If you could have postponed the project, you could have had my less than 1000 mile used flexplate for the cost of shipping. What the hell else am I going to do with it?

Well, crap, I'll pay you for shipping if you can send it to me - or is it still in the car, waiting for extraction?

I've actually been working if you can believe that.

I was confused. I guess I thought you needed tham or...I dunno. I'll chalk it up to my own friggin' stupidity. It didn't occur to me that, since you're putting in a manual, you wanted to get rid of one.

Duh.

You're heading out of town, right? I'm going home now - I'll give you a call in a bit.

Flexplate

Hi Nick, Based on my expericence, I would wait a week and put a new/like new flexplate in and save doing it again in a short time. Or start doing your tranny and find a bad flexplate at that time. By the way, are you and Amber going to the Midwest meet? The weekend of June 27th-29th. Take care, BOBB

Another thing you do not want to do is to climb through the window to open/close your sunroof on a 92!

(think about it!)

92's have power seat belts. Sunroof needs the key on to open/close. Does that clear it up a bit?
