tranny ID and types of tranny coolers
Two questions for today concerning my tranny in my 92. It has 92,000 on the odometer.
1. How do you identify the tranny whether or not it has been replaced. Is there a number or symbol stamped on it? 2. Many owners have coolers installed especially the B&M. Which model do they install and where? B&M has a model with an integrated fan (7") which seems like a good way to go. It seems that installing a shutoff valve would be practical for the cold winter months. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks and have a Happy and Safe Holiday! |

The tranny will have a metal plate near one of the bolts holding the transmission pan on if it was remanufactured by subaru. If it was independently rebuilt it is a guessing game but there may be signs of it coming out if you inspect things closely.
The B&M cooler with fan looks like the best option for a fan cooled unit. I have a perma-cool with fan but I think the B&M stacked plate would be more efficient.
