Cool 1997 Diagnostic Connector

I am new to this "SVX Thing" but rapidly becoming a groupie!

I just bought a 97 LSI and want to check for codes.

I've read the posts about the blue wires, and 2nd pin on the black diagnostic connector.

Problem:

On my 1997, the second pin on the connector (yes on top from the left, notch up) has no wire going to it !!

Do I need to use the OBD II connector on the dash instead?

Guidance here is much appreciated!

I saw a previous post mentioning the same, but could not find the resolution.

Happy Holidays to all!!!

Welcome to the network! I cant help with that question as I am not familiar with the ODBII cars, but I'm sure there is someone here that can. Once again, welcome to the network, and post often!

i'm not positive about the connector near the fuse box, but i tried and it didn't work for me, either. i sucked it up and bought a scanner (that i can use on the WRX, too - hopefully not anytime soon!)

I'm curious as to whether it can be done on a 97, or any of the OBD-II SVX's.

Do you have a digital camera that you can take pics of the connector and post it here?

Picture of the connector for the non-OBD-II car

Does the 97's have the same configuration?

The connector is similar to the pic.

The 1997's ( and 1996's I read) have one 10 pin connector like pictured AND a 16 pin connector to be used for diagnostics, not the 10 pin.

The 2nd pin on the 16 connector is blank.

I also tried the 2nd pin on the 10 connector, but it did not do anything. The check engine light remained on constant, and did not flash at all..

Hmmmmmmmmmm..... perhaps they have made some changes over the years!!!!

Thanks for your input!

Significant Technical Input
Best bet is to stop by a parts store that does free OBDII diagnostics. Many of the people here report that Autozone does that and I'd be willing to bet that many more do it also.
