How to remove the cigarette lighter bulb?
We want to replace the green cigarette lighter bulb with a blue LED bulb to go with our illumination change out. It appears the blub is in a socket on the rear of the lighter assembly. (See generic Subaru lighter photo attached, the black nub on the upper right.) The ash try bulb appears similar and it removes by rotating it to release the latching fingers. We can just touch the lighters bulb socket but can't get a good enough hold to rotate it.
Oh by the way, the cigarette light bezel appears even harder to remove with both screws being hidden/inaccessible. So except for a full dash removal any suggestions to get that bulb out? |

Re: How to remove the cigarette lighter bulb?
If you have small hands, it can be done. See this thread and my posts HERE
I have done it a couple of times. I also installed the stamped steel nut backwards so the open edge was facing outwards and not towards the front of the lighter assembly. This makes it easier to grab the edge with a pair of needle-nose pliers. Be sure to let the nut slide back along the power wire and remain there while pulling the assembly out. If you drop it, it is gone forever. .

Re: How to remove the cigarette lighter bulb?
Unless I am mistaken, I thought there was only one bulb that illuminated the outer ring, the inside of the lighter itself AND the portion that shines into the ash tray.
However, the parts diagram seems to indicate 2 bulbs .

Re: How to remove the cigarette lighter bulb?
The ash tray one is easy to remove. Still cannot get the lighter assy apart. Will try 90 degree needle nose pliers after vacation.Thanx for the picture.

Re: How to remove the cigarette lighter bulb?
Yeah, it's a PITA to get at. Pull the radio and it's easy. Great reason to replace the antiquated unit with something modern while getting at the bulb.
