valve "ticking"
Any advise on the best fix for valve 'ticking', what I'm guessing is a collapsed lifter?

Re: valve "ticking"
Drive the piss out of it and it might go away... just from sitting for an extended amount of time. It's not going to cause any damage and your looking at disassembling the top end to truly take care of it.
Others may suggest seafoam or other "fixes" but I personally wouldn't want to go that route. |

Re: valve "ticking"
That's what I thought I would do and if it is a collapsed lifter maybe high RPM (higher oil pressure) would fill it back up.
By the way, how was your drive back home, Nate?

Re: valve "ticking"
mine seems to come and go at will, its strange. before, it did it all the time, so before i got it off jackstands and on the road, i put half a can of sea foam in the oil let it run for a while, reved it up a bit(really, just a bit) drove it around when i got it on the ground, changed the oil, and now its smooth with the occasional tick.
we sell valve medic at work, but its the same deal as the seafoam, use too much, and your turning your oil in to water. ive heard of people spinning bearings, but i cant confirm this. just dont use more than the suggested amount. as for the seafoam, only use it for a few hours to the day before your oil change to be safe. but im not condoning either treatment, use at your own risk. my motor ticks very minimaly now if it does. but i wont know its condition for a few more weeks of driving. |

It was a nice drive back other than being way too tired but that was my own fault. Had a great time meeting up with a few SVX owners in Indianapolis and no issues at all with the car on the whole trip other than having to add some ATF to the power steering in Indianapolis as it started groaning as I went to leave. It was nice meeting you as well as the others that I met for the first time. I think I really should start a thread on everything I did along my whole trip... might be a long post though. |

Re: valve "ticking"
I've had great luck with a quart of motor oil cleaner. There are a few different brands, Usually you add one to your oil and run for a few minutes and then do an oil change. One engine that had sat for a long time and clattered like mad cleared right up after thetreatment. The other had just began to clatter on and off and the treatment fixed it too.
