I would like to add though with synthetic oil it does not lose/add viscosity because of the cold/heat, you could run 10w-30 in all temps it will still flow smooth it is not supposed to thicken.

I know people hate on it but it's as good as any. I did a reaseal at 120 k and everything was clean, no sludge.

If you change it every 3-5k, any old conventional oil will do. Synthetic is a waste of money unless your engine requires it.

Summer has gotten up to 120F granted that is not normal, but we do see over 100F and winter we routinely do get -30 to -45F and have seen -60F I like not having to worry about the oil not flowing on cold starts.
Both of these points of view are valid, funnily enough.

The manual does not recommend synthetics or semi synthetics, it says use oil grade API classification SF, SG. It does not warn against synthetics either, and it is normally taken for granted you can use any oil that matches or exceeds the manufacturer's specification.

Standard mineral oil like Penzoil is perfectly adequate once you follow temperature recommendations for use and change it often. It will be way cheaper for a car that gets regular changes.

Just the same it might be cost effective to use synthetic in extreme conditions like 92 SVX experiences. The fully synthetic does not break down and lose lubricating ability under very high heat loads, such as will happen to the mineral oil. I prefer the synthetic myself, but I'm happy that either will work for the EG33.

If we were to scan an Owner's Manual to pdf and save it in the How To section, do you think people might benefit from that?

Re: Low Oil level and the EG33

As I read this, I think it would be a very good idea to scan it. It doesn't change much between years, so one should be fine. I will see what I can do.

Re: Low Oil level and the EG33

Mine leaks pretty good from the rocker covers (have the gaskets already) and I run 10w30 full synthetic now. Its very intermittent when it taps, once every month or two. I was thinking about Seafoam in the oil, I have just always been leery about oil detergents remaining after a flush and screwing with the new oil. Maybe ill just do two oil changes afterwards.... the shop/oil supply is at my disposal on the weekends usually so I have no excuse not to. Good info and thumbs up on the owners manual upload, I was lucky enough to get one with mine.

Re: Low Oil level and the EG33

Well that's nice to know but Meh, I guess I will be putting in 10w30 (synthetic) in about 3,000 miles. Thanks again guys! (I didn't have an owners manual so I did not know, obviously ) I'm surprised the manual hasn't already been PDF'd many times ago. What the heck is the deal anyways? lol

Re: Low Oil level and the EG33

For most driving conditions synthetic oil is a waste of time and money as today's engines will typically outlive the rest of the car. I run synthetics in my Jag and wife's legacy simply because we both have commutes of less than 2 miles each way. I don't run it it the TVR though as the engine is a low tech vintage engine anyways. If you change your own oil you can get sythetic for the cost of paying a professional parts replacer to do it.

Re: Low Oil level and the EG33

Ok heres another mystery. Now since my oil last change almost a week ago, I havent lost a drop of oil, its still at the F mark. Previously, as mentioned, I was low in the span of a few days. I know my rocker covers havent spontaneously stopped leaking, so wth?? Same driving conditions, checked at same time interval after engine is shut off. Now its acting like it did in Orange County... not losing any oil at all. My rocker gaskets dont drip bad enough to affect the level.....

Re: Low Oil level and the EG33

Or, the oil loss is being supplanted by fuel leaking past the rings...

Does the oil smell like gasoline?

Did you change the weight of the oil at all?
