Installed new radio and now no shifter light

I recently installed a new radio and now I don't have illumination for my console shifter light. There are three "dimmer" wires so I don't know if me not connecting them had any affect on the shifter light. Or... Did my light simply burn out and it is a coincidence.

P.S. Thanks to David Carter for putting together the radio instal website. Amazing...

Re: Installed new radio and now no shifter light

my guess is that you snagged a line during the install....you're going to want to get back in there and see what's up...it's very possible you nicked a supply line that's now grounded out.

Same thing happened to me. Just pull it out and make sure everything's connected. Or you can be like me and say screw that, and leave it.

Re: Installed new radio and now no shifter light

I think if a wire is shorted, there would be more illumination lights out around the dash.

Since it's enough of a pain to slide the radio cage in and out of the dash, I'd start with the shifter bulb — check whether you're still getting voltage there and whether that bulb is burned out.

Did you insulate the unused dimmer wires behind the radio?

Re: Installed new radio and now no shifter light

I did insulate the wires I didn't use. Its not a huge issue to me but I like everything to work. Yes, the radio cage is a pain to get out and I don't plan on doing that for a while!
