Re: Transmission and Power Steering Problems. Please Help!
So what would be making the grinding noise if I didn't damage the pump?

Re: Transmission and Power Steering Problems. Please Help!
Thanks again for all the advice you guys. This project has been my "learning car" and this is my first time having to deal with the power steering system, so I'm kinda flying blind. I'm sure I'll be back on here when I'm out in the garage.

Any luck finding the correct torque wrench? Some auto-parts stores have tools for loan (Auto-Zone for certain) requiring a refundable deposit, but not requiring expense of purchase. Glenn

Re: Transmission and Power Steering Problems. Please Help!
Crap, I can't believe that I forgot to mention this... Is the little black thing that screws into the back of the PS Pump supposed to have wires coming from it? I found two wires just hanging out not hooked into anything when I first started investigating.
Again, I can't believe that I forgot this... Either way, what is that black thing that screws into the back of the pump? -Matthew

Re: Transmission and Power Steering Problems. Please Help!
New Question...
I got three stripped messed up holes on the tranny fixed with Helicoils. Those things are great! BUT, on my last one I managed to drill the hole at an angle and the bolt won't seem to thread properly into the coil. Will the oil pan seal if it's missing a bolt on one corner?

As far as the pan, you might get lucky without a bolt, but alternative is to go next size larger. Remove the coil and re-drill if there's enough material there. Risky business though. TT Tom. He may have another idea. Glenn

Re: Transmission and Power Steering Problems. Please Help!
Well, good news and not so good news (but not bad).
Good news is: Thanks a ton guys/gals. I got the Power Steering system up and running and it seems to be working well, but i won't know for sure until I get the car off jackstands and driving. It took four times "bleeding" the system until the pump quit making noise, but it's quite as can be now Now for the transmission. I put heliocoils in and my new gasket came in today. I put it on and the stupid thing is leaking like a sieve. I tigntened things down a fair bit harder than you're supposed to and it slowed but is still leaking. BUT I have a theory now. I feel silly that it didn't dawn on me earlier, but such is life. When I took the pan off the trans I noticed that the previous owner had just sandwiched a new gasket over the old one. So when I took it off there were two. The new-ish one came off pretty easily but the old one was practically hermetically sealed to the oil pan. Took about an hour of work to get it all off. When I finally did get it clean I noticed that each bolt-hole in the pan was raised about 1-2mm (towards the transmission). I didn't think anything of it (stupid I know) assuming that since it hadn't leaked before it must be fine. Today I started to think how little sense that made, and I'm pretty sure that it's supposed to be flat. Teach me to assume things are correct. So now I've ordered a new trans oil pan and gasket, which should come in on Monday. That should make the problem disappear. I was feeling mentally challenged today that I couldn't seem to make a simple gasket work (TWICE!). Hopefully the SVX will be back on the road next monday, complete with a new set of HID's. And yet again, you guys have been such a big help!

Re: Transmission and Power Steering Problems. Please Help!
Well There's your problem...
New oil pan fixed things right up. Unfortunately now my small oil leak seems to be worse. It's dripping off the front crossmember thing (I am not sure if that's the right name. It's the beam that runs left to right just in front of the steering rack.) But I'll look into that tomorrow. I've replaced the valve cover gaskets already. Anyway, here was the issue. Old trans oil pan: New trans oil pan:

Re: Transmission and Power Steering Problems. Please Help!
Yeah no substitute to putting the pan on with a rattle gun.
Harvey.
