Resolving starting problems
Hi guys, I could use your help. I have done extensive searches to resolve some minor starting problems. The engine used to start at first crank no problems. Now, from cold start, it usually starts second crank. From a warm or hot start, it may take 3-6 seconds to start.
In addition, I recently had to replace all three CATS because the precats broke up and plugged the main cat. I think the poor starting and faulty combustion likely played a role in the Cats breaking up. From searching the forums I believe my problem is centered around either the MAF sensor and or the Coolant Temp Sensor (CTS). Both seem to have caused similar problems in the past. The CTS seems to be a $40.00 part. Can't get any information on the MAF sensor cost.... Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

I bought the coolant temp sensor from rockauto.com for about $25. they list a MAF for $218, but I bet you could get one here for less than a hundred bucks.

The CTS is like 25-27 at Autozone. You don't even need to order it from RockAuto.

I would try cleaning the MAF before buying another one. The directions are in the How-To Docs.
