Nope. And that's part of the problem!

There had to be some though, right?

There were several. Subaru spent more on the SVX advertising campaign than they did on every other car they had ever build, combined.

And the the FCC pulled them, all of them.

One was just a close in of a speedometer, rising from 0 to 140, with the sound of the car accelerating, then fading to the subaru logo, the voiceover said "The Subaru SVX, use all of your speedometer.

The other was a montage of traffic tickets. "The Subaru SVX, you'll drive so fast, you'll get so many tickets, you'll lose your license."

Subaru wanted edgy, what they got was one of the largest advertisment fiascos in automotive history. As a matter of fact, it was such a colossal fscrew up that someone wrote a book about it.

"Where the Suckers Moon Its the subject of another thread, and available on amazon.com

I would really like to see some of these. I have heard that the networks would not run them. It seems they explained how fast the SVX could go and that you would loose your license!!!!! Subaru spent money on making these ads. It must be a major loss to the company. Maybe they have forgotten about it by now.

Thing is, nowadays don't a ton of car advertisements cater to this sort of thing? Seems like every car ad on TV now is glorifying performance, even in a SUV.

Either times have changed, or maybe there is some small differences and legalities.

I seem to remember the ticket montage commercial. I dunno why the image stands out, but it does.

The magazine ads went along those same lines, with the cop from Monopoly.

I had my '95 up around 130 on I-35 in Kansas back in the day. I let off because I couldn't afford to get a ticket.

Buy the book "Where the Suckers Moon" and you will understand why the memorable ads are missing.

I do remember the '80s ads. I think the Olympic team ad had a lot to do with my buying a 1986 GL Turbo. Then there was the farmer telling his son to go out and buy a Subaru and he comes back with an XT. "I thought I told you to buy a Subaru?". "But Dad, I did".

A ticket isn't the first thing I would have been worried about at that speed.....its the jail time and court costs that would be running through my mind.

Jail time? What about having to tell the wife that you were serving jail time for doing 130? That, my friend, is fear.
