again I lack the ability to post my thoughts correctly. I was meaning to say that the low line pressure is a cause for dying transmissions, this is due to pump gasket failure and also leaks both internal and external.

The higher gear ratio allows more flow, not more pressure... I hope this is making sense??

Steve, if you are free I could probably stop in on either Sat or Sunday pm around 3ish and see if it might be something simple. Lord knows I don't want you to catch Hocrest. I'd have to poke fun of you instead if that happened! Send me a pm prior to Friday evening with directions off 83 and a phone number if you'd want me to stop in.

You all make valid points. Here is the history of this tranny.

This is the original SVX transmission. I went out about 3 months into me buying the car. I saved it in hopes of rebuilding it into a spare. When I was in Minnesota I had my 3rd tranny go bad. I took the SVX and the original SVX tranny to a shop. They rebuilt the SVX tranny and transferred the front diff and long pinion out of the 4.11 into the SVX tranny making it an SVX 4.11 transmission.

I drove on it for about a year and it started to fail. I had a local shop and a master Subaru tech rebuilt the transmission. It had never ran better. I felt that it would last forever. silly me.

After talking with him today i have changed the fluid and it is running better a lot less flare but it is still there. I also found out that my original valve body was shot and he replaced it with a known goo one. It sound like the valve body is starting to go. Once in gear the car runs great. It does not slip out.

So in short the internal guts are stronger that a stock 4.11. only the final drive is from a Impreza. The external cooler is disconnected the mechanic might be hooking it back up soon. It is under warranty so what he say kinda goes.

Will a valve body out of a 4.44 work in the SVX tranny with 4.11?

Steve

Steve, my observations which may help.

“I also found out that my original valve body was shot and he replaced it with a known goo one.”

A bad, bad, bad. A new set of solenoid valves should have been fitted, or at the very least everything cleaned and solenoid A, which has an arduous life, replaced.

“It is under warranty so what he say kinda goes.”

---- and surely he has to honour the warranty and fix it.

Well it was a little over full not by much. There is no more smoking, smell is lingering.

What is anyones take on Level 10 transmissions?

If I can break one of theirs do I get a medal or just baned from SVX's?

Punting for a medal, eh? What next?? A PhD in destruction!!

I have no first hand experience but I have faith in their approach.

Phil [b3lha] had his Level 10 upgrade. It cost megabucks because of shipping. It eventually failed, but he had not put the extra transmission cooler in the circuit, and he really should have done.

I say eventually, he put intergalactic miles on it.

This time around he has put a cooler on the system. He'll probably get 200K onto this transmission.
