96 LSI value??

I have an opportunity to get a 96 LSI, Red / Tan interior in very decent shape for its 168,000 miles. More mileage than I was interested in but good maintenance and upkeep still has me pondering it. Any opinions on it's value?? What have other readers / Forum members paid for a similar car? Thanks for your feedback!

I paid $6.5k for my '96 LSI in Aug '06. Looks/runs great and had about 83k miles.

Price

Examples--3 years ago, I paid $2995 for a 96 LSi in good shape with 148K miles. It was a PA car and had the normal bolt rust, but no body or frame rust. Interior in great shape.

A little over 2 years ago I paid $7995 for a 97 LSi in perfect shape with only 54K miles. It was bought from a dealer (Appleway Subaru) in Seattle.

Of course, I drive a hard bargain and have been accused of "low balling" an offer. This definitely works sometimes if you are not in a hurry.

The 168K miles on the car is question is a lot of miles unless some key work has been done. Like transmission rebuild. Even though the later model trannys last longer---that is a lot of miles if original.

My guess without seeing the service record or the car is $5,000 to $7,000. Because of the mileage, probably $5,500 to $6,000. Good luck with the purchase.

Be sure to register at Northwest SVX if you get the car to find out about the local events.

It is now my son's (even though still in my name), but it is still here in storage with no more miles on it than when originally purchased---well maybe 75 more. Still less than 55K miles on it.

Also, waiting for warm and dry weather to install the PWR radiator, silicone hoses, RX8 wheels, Raceconcept brake set, Koni struts, Earthworm's bushings, Alcyone hood ornament, Stebro exhaust w/Euro resonator and powdered coated stock calipers.

As you may have noted several of my cars went to family members including dau, granddau, son and nephews. Two of these (dau/granddau) went to Baton Rouge LA. I suspect that my granddau is the youngest driving SVX owner. She got the 94 for her 16th birthday.

Took some pictures of the 97 in storage about an hour ago.

As you can see--nice and snug and NOT adding miles.

Are those RX8 wheels I spy? They fit the car really well. What size are they?

I was going to comment on the wheels as well. They are either RX-8 wheels or Nissan Murano wheels. I know the Nissan wheels are prefect bolt-on replacements. Either way they are super sweet looking and I want a set for mine!

You spy correctly. They are RX8 wheels. The size is 18x8. The tires on them right now are actually one size over optimum, but they came with them. The wheels add just a little under 2lbs per wheel, but some of that is gained back by lighter tire weights when the proper size is used. It is desirable to use hubcentric rings in size 56X63mm and lug nuts appropriate for the wheels.

165k miles? 3-4 grand would be a good buy. depends exactly how clean it is, and what the matinence records include.check the records out for timing belt every 60k, normal oil canges, tranny fluid, and gear oil changes
