Short-distance tow?

I have to tow a dead SVX less than 3 miles... Is it worth taking all of the precautions mentioned, i.e.: FWD fuse in (no good: engine doesn't run), driveline disconnected, hire a flatbed, etc., or will it be OK if I do it slowly?

Well, do you have dolly or are you pushing it with cletus's pickuptruck?
If you have a dolly where two wheels are touching the ground, and the other two arent, its best to unbolt the driveshaft. Its quite easy...First, you get the car on the dolly, then you squeeze under the car and unbolt the driveshaft from the rear diff. Use a bungee cord to hang the driveshaft out of the way (tie it to the exhaust)
It's not so much tha you doiing anything slow is going to save your diffs, its the fact tha two wheels will be moving, and two wont

No, not using a dolly, just a tow rope, so all four wheels will be on the ground. Tow company wants $70 to do it which I won't pay if there's little/no chance of damage.

even a slow tow can mess up a trans if the engine isn't running... I would say blow the $70 to save more than that in transmission repairs.

I thought it was fine to tow it with all 4 wheels on the ground.

It is if its a manual, but the auto needs the motor running to keep fluid pumping to keep it from getting hot.

Pay the 70 bucks.

Too much at stake.

Do the $70... We did something like that once and it cost us alot more than what it would have cost to get a truck.
