front end problems? diff? axle??

Hi,

I've only posted here once nor do I have the technical competence that so many of you obviously have. Please forgive my newbieness. My '92 Subaru SVX has 115,700 miles on it. It's always been good to me. Other than a new (OEM) radiator and a rebuilt alternator, she's always been good. Now, because my wife got the PT Cruiser she wanted, I'm getting ready to sell it. But the other day it started making a noise like something was dragging and occasionally bouncing up and hitting the chassis, like maybe a belt or rope. Within ten miles it got steadily worse, actually so bad it's not drivable. I can't go forward or reverse 6 feet without it making very loud noises, binding and the engine almost lurching out of it's mounts. I'm pretty certain it's coming out of the front end... differential, axle? I'd like to find out anything I can so I can get the best deal on parts without having to pay a mechanic storage fees while I wait for the parts to arrive.

Thanks and sorry for the length,

Steve

Sounds like you have broken the front diff Steve. Somebody will chip in and tell you what to do.

Welcome to the Fomum Steve.

Harvey.
