Paint Codes

So now that the performance is done on the Pearl its time to knock out the paint and body work. Luckily I live in SoCal and the car hobby is huge here. So getting paint is going to be easy I just need the paint code. I figure I can save a good deal of $ if I spray it myself. All I want to do now is practice on my rear bumper that is already fudged up. But eventually I want to re-spray the black on the roof and trunk lid and spray the bumper Stevsby sells. Thanks guys!

Significant Technical Input Registered SVX Classic SVX
The paint code for the pearl 1992 and 1994 SVX is White Mica (Pearl White) 167

The black color is a non-metallic black color (possibly 067).

Do not use 1992-1997 Black Mica (Ebony Pearl) 135 for the roof and trunk. These have either metallic red or green flakes in them.

Or Red particles, sort of a "strawberry red" under certain light conditions.

May I suggest that unless you were a skilled spray painter in another life, you take your car to someone who has such a skill. Applying even coats can be tricky. Then comes the question of a sterile paint booth. Do you have one? I didn't think so. Let me suggest that, since you are only minutes from Mexico, and across the border are many body and paint shops that employ skilled workers, you go across and get an estimate there. Ask around and find a reputable shop. Also look into the legal aspects of having work done in Mexico. Check with your insurance company to see if they will cover the car while it is in Mexico. Best wishes.

Thanks for the codes. I remember that the Ebonys had metalic flakes in them and the pearls black is just a gloss black.

As for the DIY aspect of it, there's a hobby shop on one of the Marine bases around here that has paint booths. So thats not an issue. As for skills, thats why I'd practice on smaller projects till Unlce Sam sends me to paint school.

Being I work at a body shop, ill offer this bit of advice.

Pay a professional to paint it.

First off, black shows EVERY imperfection, not only in the paint work but every aspect of the bodywork done underneath it.
Secondly, pearl is hard to colormatch, and is a rather tricky thing to spray. The pearl material really shows any mistakes in spraying teqniques.
If you are lookin to save money on a paint job, the best way is to do the prep work yourself. Its alot less costly of a mistake to say...oversand some primer off or put on a little too much body filler than it is to fudge up a pearl coat or miss a spot clearing.
If you want any tips on bodywork, feel free to shoot me a pm
