Oh and I still have it, it's in my parents' crawlspace in a plastic bag.
Atari 2600 is older that the Colecovision. Atari 7800 and 5200 where contemporaries of the Colecovision.

Wow! That must be a newer model 2600. I still have the original model that was at least twice that size and with woodgrain trim. Every now and then I consider selling it on eBay. Doubt I'd get much for it though, even though I have it in the original box (still looks like it came off the shelf).

i have the most popular version w/ the woodgrain trim, but i know it's not original. my step-uncle had an older version of teh 2600 with the difficulty a-b switches on top between the power / game select / reset/ etc. switch next to the game cartridge itself. my version has the difficulty switches on the back. i should go home and take pics.

At todays exchange rate, that worked out to $210.73. The exchange rate was probably better back in the 70's.

It's not so bad. They grow up to make video games.

In 1969 when I was in Japan (11 years old, Navy brat), the exchange rate was VERY favorable . . . 360 Yen to 1 USD. 24,800 Yen was $68.89.

My wife and I still have our Atari 2600 with over 65 games (that's where I stopped counting . . . ) in their original boxes. We also have the official Atari trackball controller and wireless joystick controllers, in their original boxes.

Who can forget the porno titles: Custer's Revenge, Bachelor's Party and Beat 'Em & Eat 'Em? In their fake suede cases!

I think one of best the accessories we have for the Atari 2600 was a unit made by Arcadia called the 'Superchager'. We have nine games for this unit including the original Communist Mutants From Space. On the package, the 'C' is in the form of a Hammer & Sickle and the dot on the 'i' is a red star. Shortly after its introduction it was renamed with Communist removed from the title, political correctness in the '80s? Info from www.ataritimes.com:

"With the Supercharger, you could load games from ordinary cassette tapes instead of cumbersome plastic cartridges. Since cassettes were cheaper than plastic cartridges, prices of Supercharger games were cheaper than cartridge games by Atari, Activision, and so on.

The Supercharger also added 6KB RAM to the 2600's paltry 128 bytes of ram, allowing for more-detailed graphics and larger games. In fact, some Supercharger games required multiple loads, easily making the games over 20K big."

Then there's the Commodore 64 with two HUGE external 5.25" single-sided/single-density floppy disk drives and the Timex Sinclair . . . Crap, we never throw anything away!

Dan
