SVX Chat Room

I'm posting this because many people don't know what IRC is. To get into the svx chat room download an IRC chat program. Probobly the most popular is mIRC. When you start it tell it to connect to irc.subaru-svx.net and add #svx to the chat room list when it pops up, then select it and hit join.
Maybe everyone does know but i'm sure there are at least one or two people that don't.

One way to get to chat is with mIRC. Most can just click on "Live Chat" and run the Java applet. My Java was corrupted for a while and I had to reinstall it. Maybe others have that problem?

oh wow. i never saw that link. heh. IRC is a good setup anyway. Great for file sharing and just all around chatting. And it was around long before programs like aim and yahoo messenger.

This will probably sound naive to people who use chat rooms all the time. Do chat rooms have people typing answers to typed questions, in real time as it were?

Or, is the data transferred in voice format through the speakers so people can hear each other?? Is the "chat" audible?

I have never managed to get one working.

Tried it Boone, no luck again.

Appetising sounding applet took ages to load. Got to a page where loads of lines starting with [server] in different colours.

Near the end, it says Note: type "/join/#svx/" without quotes or some such nonsense. Trouble is, there is no cursor. Typing does nothing. Will confine my chatting to the audible version methinks.

yeah, sounds easy......unless you have webTV!!!
high powered computer and DSL coming as soon as i sell the two cars that my SVX is replacing. i will be looking this thread up in the archives later when i get the computer. i'm tired of waiting forever to read a few posts on these forums.

I was 2.13 AM here so I accepted defeat and the fact that my body needs sleep.

Will try it again some evening when there are people on. It is my lack of familiarity with the protocols I am sure.

Also probably these programmes are likely to be written by computer nerdy types who do not see the need to make it intuitive and user-friendly, or possibly leave it a-mazing so they can keep title to the arcane nature of it.
