I think it's real. Looks like they were trying to do it, and it worked. I've fried CPUs before, but they just smelled like burning. No explosions.

I think it's real, I just don't think it's completely legit. Odds are, they either used Prime95 to heat the thing up and then heatsync off and kablammy or they put the voltage up to something insane and just let it go. I just wonder how the main chip managed to stay rather intact where as the rest of the processor itself cracked.

I can't see a Duron even posting at 4GHz. No AMD would boot at that speed.
The screen said the CPU voltage was 4V+. I don't know any motherboards that go that high. Why didn't they show the CPU fan spinning? I don't believe there would ever be an explosion from a CPU powerful enough to blast through a table. I've only seen CPU's burn up.

There's no way to keep the intercapacitance of a Duron under control at 3.8GHz. Impossible. Not even at that insane 4.2V they set the core operating at.
It would never post. Not with a 130 process. Never.

I concur with Earthworm 100 percent. There is absolutely no way. It's even mathematically impossible with a 130 process.

Also the CPUid/CPU-Z program would be updating the exact speed of the CPU. That screen was static. I watched it again and the CPU fan was plugged in but not spinning. The more I watch it the less I believe it.

If you listen closely, the guy says "The fan stopped".. or something like that. But it doesn't matter. You are right, it's fake. I challenge anyone to get an FX-57 stable at 3.8Ghz. And 4.2V?? A potential that strong would blow straight through the gate of any FET with a 90 or 130 nanometer width. Zap! Straight through it like a water hose squirting through toilet paper. There may be a "pop!", but it ain't going through plywood. Mathematically impossible. The circuit would open way prior to any heat buildup at 4.2V.

My bet is there was already a hole in the table.
I don't see why the cpu wouldn't fly off the handle if it was double clocked. My P3 becomes instable at 80Mhz over clock. I imagine a puny Duron would handle less given they are using the oem fan and heatsink. There are programs that allow you to boot stably at regular frequency and OC through the gui, at which point obviously the screen would hang completely and appear static. But I would not be surprised if someone had an m80 under that hole in the table for a theatrical push.
