subaru baja vs. isuzu vehicross
wow... it's been a while since i've posted on this forum... regrettably, i no longer own a svx... the tranny issues still haunts me at night... maybe one day i can recover...
but i do value the opinion of the folks on this forum... so here's my latest question i'm in the market for a fun suv... and the two i'm thinking about are the subaru baja turbo and the isuzu vehicross. i've loved the vehicross ever since it first came out... just loved the look, but i'm not too sure about isuzu reliability issues and 15-19 mpg is another eeker... i also loved the baja since it debut in 03, and the baja turbo seems quirky enough to satisfy my wow factor... better fuel economy, but the turbo probably requires premium gas... all in all, just wanted to see if the folks here have any experience/opinion with these vehicles... thanks y'all

From a reliability standpoint, I would think the Baja would be a better choice. The Baja is based on the Impreza, which has been very reliable. Not sure what the Isuzu is based on. With the vehicross, you might have the same sort of issues that we have with the SVX. Namely, lack of knowledge from mechanics on the trouble areas, high cost of replacement parts, and low availability of aftermarket parts.
From a "which is less ugly" standpoint, the Baja wins. But not by much. --Matt |

I would just buy an Outback, honestly. It's a more useful car, in my opinion. Unless you're really attached to the Baja's looks, that is. Impreza...that's a good one.

ditto on that, although i've always liked the looks of the Vehicross as well. i'm guessing the Baja could be made to be a LOT more fun (Cobb AP, UP/DP.....). mpg probably won't be much better with the Baja Turbo, as i'm getting about 15-17mpg in my LGT (90% city driving). there is a Vehicross that is always parked a few blocks down the road, and i always give it a second look, but as nordique14 said, i'm sure parts and knowledgable mechanics will be hard to come by. i saw a silver one in the classifieds not too long ago and said, hmmmm, maybe the wife could use it..... weird, cool-looking things.

I also agree that the Outback is a way more practical vehicle. |
