Where is the remote sensor?
Hi All,
Does anyone know where exactely the remote sensor is for the SVX remote? I'm trying to train my Palm TREO to capture the signal from the remote. The output from theTREO is very weak, I'm going to have to aim the TREO IR output port at or near the sensor. Thanks in advance.

Unless you can train your Palm IR port to transmit radio waves, I think you're SOL...
 The antenae on the Receiver is a ~5" wire that hangs from the security computer. The antenae on the remote is actually the metal key ring itself...  If you open it up there is a wire connected to the metal lug that the ring goes through... Pretty cool huh??

I'm pretty sure the security module is behind the glovebox on 92 models and in the trunk on 93 and up. Either way the antenna for the remote is a short piece of wire attached to the module. But Hocrest is right: PDA's have infrared ports that can send and receive infrared light beams. Keyless remotes work by radio signals.

You guys are right, what was I thinking
 !But, I refuse to give up. Does anyone out there know if there are any devices that can capture and then transmit the remote signal? I know Radio Shack sells devices to capture IR, transmit via RF and then convert back to IR. What I'm hoping to do is find a device that is maybe a little more robust than the standard Subaru remote, like maybe a "learning" garage door key-chain remote or something. It would be nice to have a back-up. If anyone has found anything that works, let me know.

A lot of remote controls use rolling codes that change with each usage in order to thwart would be thieves from intercepting your signal.
