SV-Rex at the Subaru Challenge
OK, you loafers, where were you???
The SV-Rex was the only SVX there! We had a great time, and had a chance to put a face on a few of your screen names. Enjoyed meeting you!! We had to run FP class, since we didn't have an interior. That left us running against some SERIOUS metal, including the 450 hp STI Porter was driving (traitor!!) Needless to say, we got beat by many. In a pack of about 100 cars, we finished about 2/3 of the way down the list. I think we were the oldest car there, with no power adder, and almost no driving experience. We certainly were the lowest budget car! (Porter's tires cost half what our whole car did!). We were pretty pleased that we managed to top the scores of about 30% of the entries, and no one had more fun than we did!! The best part was seeing several STI's behind us in the standings!!

Sounds like it was loads of fun! Porter got to "play" in a 450hp STi?!? No fair! How did he place?
What are the mod plans for the future?

The overall standings are really confusing- I think he placed 60th. He was best in class in the FP class, and he definitely had the ride of the day- a serious on the edge burnout AWD drifting ride that drew wild applause from everyone!
Do you mean the mods for his car or mine?

Either of your SVXi.
What cars were able to shut down his STi? What kinds of events were there?

It was all autocrossing. He had power, but still has to work on the suspension.
My cars- let's see... The SV-Rex is on a 200 lb. diet (beyond the 750 lbs. already lost), being prepped for a roll cage, increasing nitrous jets, re-vamping the air intake, opening the exhaust more, lot's of polishing, test and tune and test and tune... The 5 spd is progressing well. Just not enough time....

Another 200 lbs.? How you going to do that (frame drilling)? Will the roll cage add close to as much as being removed? Will you be able to rebuild the engine and/or tranny? Will be cool to see how much faster she gets!
I have neither the time NOR money to attempt the 5-speed... so I know what 'ya mean.

We are prepping for the cage, not installing it yet. In order to keep the cost in the budget for next year's GRM Challenge, we can't do the cage 'till after, and a motor or tranny rebuild is DEFINTITELY out of the question budget wise. The cage would only be required if we broke into the 11's.
I am hoping after the return trip to the Challenge in April that I (or someone else, if I sell it) will take the car to the next level. I'm imagining a roll cage, 5-spd, tech 2 engine management, stage 2 (or 3) nitrous setup, stebro exhaust, etc. etc. etc. For now, I'll stick to the low budget stuff. For 2005, I'll be keeping the budget to about $14. I'll be dumpster diving for my mods!

That was the whole car purchase, taxes, fees, transport, all mods including koni/ GC's, nitrous, new Falken Azenis, etc. etc.- even the spray paint we used!
It wasn't easy. If I had it to do again, I think I'd buy a $1950 car and a can of paste wax!
