transmission question
Thank god this question isn't for me! A friend of mine just got a 92 claret with I think 130,000 miles it has a junk yard radiator so I think its newer than 92. It also has a legacy transmission, so says the guy that sold it to him. He currently has the FWD fuse in because the back wheels hop with it out. C ould this be due to the front and rear gears not matching, how do I find out the ratio of the front diff? I don't know what year/model/make the tranny is for sure. Also when you get to 3rd gear it does'nt engage, could this be TPS related, band adjustment, blocked fluid line the filter looks original.

If the tranny will engage in 4th gear and the TC will lock, then from the engine rpm and the speed of the car, you can determine the fron diff ratio. (All the 4eats have the same 4th gear ratio.) If it has a 4.11, the car should be doing about 64 mph at 2500 rpm. If its a 4.44, the car should be doing about 59 mph at 2500 rpm. If the tires are worn, these numbers would drop by about 1 mph. If that doesn't work, then I think you're going to have to find the ID tag on the tranny.

Clarets were only produced in 91 or 92.

It's newer, meaning the radiator, not the svx. That is definately a 92 but the radiator had markings like that of a junk yard radiator, so it may be from a 93+ hence no stuff in the radiator to clog up the line. It won't go past 3rd once it goes to 3rd it's like going into neutral. The old fluid was brown and the new fluid didn't seem to fix anything.
