Oil Pan Sealant

As I understand it, there is no gasket for the perimeter of the oil pan on an SVX. Rather, there is a "sealing oil pan" o-ring, Subaru part 11122AA000, that fits somewhere in the interior of the pan, passenger side rear corner.

Two questions:

1. Do I have this right?

2. If so, what sealant do I use on the perineter of the oil pan?

Thanks for any and all help.

I think that o-ring seals the suction pipe for the oil pump. Any RTV sealant will work on the pan face. I use the high temperature stuff. Gasket remover in a spray can works good for taking the old stuff off. Happy cleaning and check the face of the oil pan with a straight edge before it goes back.

Talking I concur John

Clean the pan surface completely, check for surface deformation, and use RTV to seal it back up.

I used the high-temp black stuff when installing mine. Followed the installation instructions on the RTV package and allowed it to skin before I bolted it back in place.
