Question Using OIL > > > > > > > > !

I'm using about 1 Quart of engine oil every 500 to 800 miles! I don't see much on the ground. What I do see seems to be from the power steering at the right front of the engine (?).

Could I be USING that much oil without substantial engine performance problems (missing, etc.)?

Thanks,

oil loss

Novice opinion here, but I'd think you'd be seeing plenty of blue smoke if you were burning that much oil. Maybe it's leaking only under pressure; that would explain why you don't see much of a puddle under the car.

you said that it is at the right of the engine and appears to be powersteering??? Well I thought that something in my Powersteering was messed up with mine too when I saw this, but it turned out to be the valve cover gaskets... Check that...

LEAKING . . . . . . .

Maybe it is the right side valve cover gasket. They did driver's side gasket 1 1/2 years ago. I'll look closer!

I forgot to tell you that I use Redline 10/30 synthetic oil.

drive the car a few hundred miles without washing it. Then feel the exterior of the car (especially the back) for oil residue. Because of the aerodynamics of the svx, when you have a severe oil leak, it tends to just spray out under the car and become deposited on the rear bumper, tail lamps, trunk lid and the like.
