Front axle shafts the same??

Having had a garage try to fit a 96 front axle shaft onto my 92 car and being told it doesn't fit, Ive just proved it can!

I am having a loud banging noise at low speed on lock, so I am sure it is the shaft. Having swapped the shafts, the noise is still there, so it must be the other side (last time I go to that garage!).

So my question is, are the shafts the same for nearside and offside?

I'm sure that they are, but confirmation before I do another swap would be nice!

Thanks

If so, the shaft are the same type for left and right.
The same cv joint the same lenght and same tread (RH)

Yes, the axles are the same for all years, and they are identical left and right (#28021PA061). The only difference is with the 2WD models.

What is the difference on the 2wd axles.
I bought an axle from raxles.com and it would not fit in the hub on either side - drivers or passengers. It will go in about 1/4" and then stops. It looks identical.

I'm not sure. I don't have any to compare. All I know is that the part # is different.
