Bought a 96 Legacy

Well, yesterday was a rough day. It ended in me having to go buy a new car. Nothing happened to my SVX, don't worry.

So browsing craigslist i came across a few dozen cars that were potentials. Then I saw the legacy. It was a 1996 Subaru Legacy LSi with AWD and every feature that it could have. Guy was asking $1500. Body was in great condition, too.

The bad: CEL. It's throwing 2 EGR codes and 2 cat operating efficiency codes. po400, po420 were two of them that i can remember off hand. Anyone care to take a stab at what it might be? The shop the guy talked to said it was a bad front cat.

So I looked it over, and it looked clean. The interior was near flawless, as was the exterior. Under the hood looked relatively clean as well. It had just had oil change. Starter and alternator replaced at 150k miles, as well as timing belt, plugs, and a half dozen other things. He's the second owner, bought it at 21k miles 10 years ago. Has driven 120 miles to and from work daily, so it currently resides at 195k miles.

I took it for a spin, and it felt great. Very smooth ride, transmission shifted perfectly. Everything in the car works except the power antenna, and the driver side unlock all button is intermittent.

Overall I think it was a pretty good deal.

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, scotch in one hand, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming HOOOOYA !!!!!
