I'm not sure its fair to compare with another car. Even when I had a B&M 16,000 GVW cooler installed with my AT, the tranny temps would still hover around 190F in the summer just driving around town. If I had a PWR radiator, I'd still use an external ATF cooler in the drivers side front fender well.

Agreed. The more cooling the better for tranny longevity!

I called PWR...

...and Josh no longer works with them. There's a new sales guy named Brandon who handles group sales. He was on another line, but I'll call him back later this afternoon and see what he can arrange for us. Hopefully, they'll agree to a price in the $450-$470 range!

-Chike

P.S. More later...

Spoke to Brandon...

...great guy and he said he'll do his best to match the price Josh gave the Network before. Asked me to send everything to him in an e-mail which I did:

brandon@PWR-PERFORMANCE.COM

Subject: Subaru SVX - Aluminum Radiator Group Buy

Hi Brandon,

It was a pleasure speaking with you earlier today. I'm a member of the www.subaru-svx.net forum and our members are interested in having a second group buy on the PWR aluminum radiators as the holiday season approaches!

At the last Group Buy, we needed 20 people to sign-up and the group buy price was $450 + shipping. Let me know if you'll be able to match this deal that Josh previously arranged with our Forum and when you'll have enough units in stock to meet the quantity required by our group buy.

I look forward to working with you!

Respectfully,

Chike Dellimore (username on SVX Network: Chiketkd)

I would highly recommend the new guy read this thread to assure no old problems crop up. They may have said there is already a new batch made up, but no one has seen one of them. I'd hate to see the new group experience what the old group experienced.

There is no argument to get into. Let the company who sells them send them out "not" requiring modification. This would fit into that "ounce of prevention" thing some speak of.

Tom, I'd like to thank you again (this time in the open forum) for taking the time to install the aluminum rad in my car. And if you remember, even after shaving the bushings and with PWR's new radiator cap, the hood still wouldn't close without having to cut the old cap's wings. It would be nice for the new guys not to have to deal with that, since not everyone has the fortunate ability to receive your help as I did.

As a side note, I would recommend everyone who is replacing the rad to definitely put on the silicone hoses. I didn't do that, to Tom's surprise, and sure enough, the following day my top hose burst!!! :-( That may also be partly due to the design of the new rad since its flange seems to stick out a bit further than the stock rad and causes the hose to be crimped a bit as it curves around.

With that said... Does anyone have an extra set of silicone hoses that I can buy? I still haven't upgraded to the silicone hoses yet, since when it burst I simply got a regular replacement at the nearest auto parts store.

Regards,
Rad

Yeah, I finally figured out the top hose burst phenomena. The top pipe of the Aluminum radiator extends further out than the stock unit. This causes the stock hose to be closer to the top Power steering pump line that goes to the PS cooler coil.

When the car reaches normal water temp/pressure, the stock hose expands and starts rubbing hard up against that power steering line... and in a day or so.... Voila!!

The silicone hoses don't expand as much, and therefore never makes contact.

You can "force" the OEM hose onto the radiator pipe far enough down to keep this from happening, but you'll have to "really" put it far down on the pipe. This kind of kinks the OEM hose, and the flow won't be as the system was designed.

It's best to buy silicone hoses, they don't expand as much and won't cause this rubbing problem. This modification only runs a little over a hundred bucks through motorsports. I sure they still have some sets left.

OR!!!!!........................

Crazy thought..... Are you ready?

Someone can inform PWR, and they can cut the pipe length back to the proper OEM length prior to shipping out the second batch.

I know........ Silly me... Just trying to start an argument.

We'll need to hit 20 people again to get the 'tentative' price of $450. Frankly, I feel that number can be reached once more...

I'll post a new thread in the For Sale section once Group Buy #2 is under way!
