Smile My first "maybe" SVX ??

Hi Folks, I have been on this forum for a while but havent posted much just learning since I dont have one....YET?

I know of a 94 SVX with 177K on it and the seller dropped the price to 500.00! The downside is that it doesnt go over 25MPH (wont come out of first gear). The rest is very nice, no rust, interior/exterior is great.

I have a few options: Have it towed to a national chain like Aamco and have them fix it for max 3500 ( or could be less) and Id have a nice running/looking 94 for under 4K. Or I could have to put on a carrier and taken to Florida, where Im going to live?

My main concern is Ill have to drive it about 1000 miles shortly after getting it and I dont know what else is possibly wrong. My brother lives in the same town that it is in and has seen it but not running. He will do that next week. The seller claims that the engine starts right up and goes into Drive just fine but wont go any higher gears.

I suppose Im on the fence about having it towed to Aamco drop 4K and then it not making the trip.

Any thought or advice? This seems like a good deal to me even for 4K???

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Danger Will Robenson !!!!! Don't take it to AAMCO!!! All of the members who I know that have used them have had nothing but trouble. I would take it to Subaru and have them do it for about the same price and they would have a warrenty. AAMCO says that they do until you need something done. Or, have some one else pick up a Subaru remanufactured tranny and install it for you. Just my thought.

Just another thought

5mt or 6mt conversion might be a good idea for you too.

Thanks Guys

I thought folks would be all over the fact of a decent 94 with a bad tranny for 500 bones. What is TSI? I cant see a subi dealership NOT bending me over on a tranny or rebuilding it? I have an 88XT now and I have only bought parts there that nobody else had..

Thanks for the warning on Aamco. I highly doubt that Ill go that route. I been hunting for a decent one for a year now and I think Im just too excited about it, and ready to make a bad decision. I think Ill wait until I can get one all in one piece with a good tranny and put the cooler on it.

Any other suggesstions?? Cheers Chris

Question Ebony 94 w/ 5 speed BUT... Strange issues??

Hey Folks, Sorry I havent kept up.. I just moved from Ottawa to Jax, FL and just got my computer the other day. John (AvPPoW) did a 5 speed conversion on mine since it had a dead OEM tranny and it is nice. I have never driven an auto SVX so I dont know. I wiill say the it is quick.

John did a great job with it so any one in the NJ area that would like it done I recommend his work.

The only "issues" I have with it has nothing to do with what he did..

Here is a strange one.. Per the pubs the SVX should hold about 18.5 gallons per tank. The day after I got it from John in NJ it was pretty dry so I filled it up. It only took 11 gallons and the gauge was on E. ( the FEED ME light never came on). At first I thought that the tanks were switched with another subi tank from something smaller. I looked under and I dont see extra space if a smaller tank was there??

When I left the gas station I noticed that the gauge only went up to the 3/4 line though I knew it was full. ????? Any comments on that??

That day I drove it to South Carolina and filled it twice and putting in no more that 11-13 gallons 325-350 per tank (about 25-29 MPG)

1. Any clue where the extra 3-5 gallons went?? and why I cant fill it to the 16-17 gallon range?

2. Why wont the gauge show that it is full?

I do have a few bugs I have to iron out after I get all moved in (my wife wont let me tinker with it until the house is all finished.... HAHA

thanks for any help... Chris

Welcome to SVX "quaintness". While most SVX gauges will gradually limp to full, consider the empty line as a mere suggestion. Mine isn't truely near empty 'til the light comes on, & the needle will be riding on the bottom of the "E". Then you'll still have about a gallon hiding somewhere.

Ron.

My gas gauge doesn't work 100% either. when I fill it, it drops to E. then after about 1/4 tank of use, it drops to 3/4, then goes way past E before the light comes on.

Have you every driven until the light came on? try that. (with a full gas can handy)
