Nice!
Nice looking pics Ben. I remember the pics you put up of the car when you first got it over on the XT6 network a few months back. Looks like your project is coming along nicely.
If you do make it to the drag meet at Hagerstown in March, I'd be very interested in knowing what kinda times that thing would run. How much (approximate) weight have you taken off at this point? -Chike

look buddy, i dunno about the racing you do and its rules, but you should shave some weight by considering the following:
Coolant bottle Pastic thing on the manifold Dashboard, keep only the clusters Steering wheel SVX driver chair SVX hood plexiglass instead of glass.. I dunno if racing rules allow you to, but this is just an idea..

Coolant bottle, fairly important unless you wanna drip poison all over the place. Usually frowned upon by most racing officials Plastic piece will be gone Gotta have something to attach the clusters too and have it looks somewhat presentable, besides, there is only a 1/3 of it left and it really doesn't weigh much Steering wheel is pretty much gone, just waiting for the Gen 1 Legacy wheel to arrive Drive seat (where do ya sit). Seriously, I've been looking into racing seats but to this point haven't found one worth a darn in weight savings once you get the bracket in there. Of course they're out there but they also cost an arm and a leg. Not quite in the budget this year. Hood, again you need one in any legal racing throughout the world to my knowledge Waiting for the first person to $%&$ up their carbon fiber hood out there. Plexiglass is illegal as well, lexan is not. I have a standing offer to trade the windshield and rear window for the lexan needed. It isn't cheap. Side windows will be gone (although, it is an SVX so the upper windows will stay for now at least). You need to remember that the car is outside. Today's high temp is about 0 celcius today, -10 with the windchill.

I wonder if the light weight JDM bumber beam from a impreza will fit? That would save you around 20 pounds, and lower your polor movement of interia alot. I think there also under $100 too.
Just wondering are you going to leave the sunroof hole open like that or are you going to put something in it? Also did you remve the heater core seems like it would semi usefull sence it 0 celcius out there. |

i wish he can learn a little bit about fiberglass, this would help him a looooot. the materials are cheap and easy to deal with. he can make a lightweight piece to cover this hole... mmm, still wondering, is it legal?

No bumper beams at all. Don't need em unless I hit something.
I can fiberglass just fine. Just don't care to if I don't have too. Fiberglass sucks and is weak as anything unless you make it think (in which case Steel panels are just as good) As for the Recaro I need the actual FIA approved brackets which are about $650 for an impreza, not made for an SVX. The seat and brakets from the ones I looked at weigh in at about 10lbs less than a stock fabric seat, not a whole lot for your money. Not sure about the sunroof. Would like to Lexan it but keep it removable for those nice summer days.

Hocrest and I had a very productive day with the car. Some good and not so good news to report.
1. Dave threw his back out. Must be hurting rather bad as the vicadin I gave him didn't seem to help. Took him about 5 minutes to get to and into his car- 35 feet away. 2. THE CAR RUNS GREAT (even though I haven't mastered fuel rail replacement as it seems to leak about a 1/4 gallon of gas a minute. 3. Car goes no where in FWD, Drives in AWD. There's some weird noises coming from the front dif area. We're assuming that it is a bad dif at this point. Funny thing is the power light doesn't flash . Check engine light is on though. 4. Did I mention that it runs great????

Ben, I wouldn't worry about that coolant bottle missing. You might get her started without the radiator in it but unless the race is only 15 seconds long, I think having the radiator installed is worth the extra weight it adds to the car. Just a thought. But heck, since you appear to be going that route, lose the oil pan and you will save the weight of the pan along with about 10lbs for the 5quarts of oil you won't be lugging around any longer. Huh? Huh? Stick with me and we will have this baby down to 300lbs in no time. Dry weight of course
Johnny
