Re: Need help! I have a knocking sound!!!!!!!

Sounds like mine does right now, except louder. When you start it from cold (overnight type thing) does it make a horrendous racket for a half second or so? If you have the tools and know-how, drain the oil and look at it. If it's a silvery metallic colour then you're definitely in the same boat as me, which is that you've lost a bearing in one of your connecting rods. The simple fix is a new engine.

Re: Need help! I have a knocking sound!!!!!!!

I didn't crack the engine open to see what was the problem, partly because of time, but mostly because it sounded a lot like what I've come to know as rod knock.

LetitSnow - What was wrong with the engine you recently pulled? Im looking for that sort of speculation here.
could the sound be a lifter or is a duller sound?

Re: Need help! I have a knocking sound!!!!!!!

Kieth,
Yes it is quieter. My buddy mike (audi guy) says it sounds like a lifter as well. If only I knew wtf that was exactly!! lol
(though now that my dad heard it, he doesn't think it is a lifter at all. Though it is an engine noise... hope i can get it resolved soon)
