Re: Ryan Lanza - CT Massacre

BTW, it was actually Adam Lanza. Ryan was at work in NYC.

A lot of people are legitimately scared of things like end times, zombie apocalypse, aliens, and rampant home invaders of a less super nature.

I agree. There used to be a state mental hospital near where I lived. It closed, I dunno, 30 years ago, along with all of the other state-run mental institutions here. Now the loonies stay at home.

I'm coming in a day late here, but it sounds as though she might have gotten them for him.

If the loonies stayed at home we wouldn't be having this discussion.

A good friend of mine is a prison guard.
Some of his wards are mentally unstable (CRAZY!!!!!)
They are the ones that scare him!
The wife beaters, father stabbers, group W bench sitters, not a problem, but the crazies, they are disconnected in a way that WE will never understand.

Re: Adam Lanza - CT Massacre

He is ( was) 20 years old. He tried to buy Guns but the would not sell them to him. I would like to know where he got a bullet proof vest and the rifle
If it was your child that was killed you might be whistling a different tune.

All the Guns he used were legally registered to his Mother who he shot dead in the face.

Brings up a good point. In northern Alaska, they have the highest suicide rates in the entire country. Likely has to do with the fact they don't see the sun for quite some time in winter and don't get a night for some time in summer. Anyway, up there I am betting on a few things.
1. everyone has guns
2. limited media
3. high suicide rate
4. no school shootings or other mass shootings. (At least none that we've heard about) (Granted, population is pretty low)
5. based on nikfu's post, and he lives in Alaska, anyone can go and buy firearms and ammo.

So, my point?
Media fuels these events. It gets covered on the news for days, weeks, or even longer. Every time another event comes up, they talk about all the previous events. They glorify these people.
I am betting that all of these shooters want to die. But, instead of just quietly committing suicide and you never hear about it, they act out. They've probably been put down or cast out in their life and this is their way of getting attention. In the most horrific way.

There was one small school shooting in 97. It was a one-off in a rural town, but it was also pretty sick if you read the details. The kid was disturbed but your point of him wanting infamy did indeed play a role.

The city I live in only has the occasional isolated crazy. No mass killings. Bullying wasn't terribly common when I was in school, either. Something to think about.

Re: Adam Lanza - CT Massacre

Bullying is a sympton of society's lack of compassion and is a HUGE factor. Add to that a total lack of respect or belief in the sanctity of life and you get what happened here. People are focused on the guns where it is the people that is the problem. Guns were just as accessible in 1950 but people weren't shooting 5 year olds. People are almost as whacked as they were in the dark ages or the end of the Roman Empire. We are seeing the end of another empire/age.

Re: Adam Lanza - CT Massacre

IMO, this may be a symptom of kids being coddled too much. nowadays, everything revolves around the children. back when my parents were young and before, kids were to be "seen and not heard". they sat quietly and were polite, or they got smacked. now helicopter parents circle their kids and jump to their every request.

enter Nickelodeon, and other kid shows that glorify the "smart-ass" sassy kid, and their "dumb" parents. give everyone a trophy, even the losers. give them their way, no matter what. guess what happens when they are adults and real life provides harsh lessons and they don't get their way? some lose their **** and leave the house with a gun and a murder-suicide plot.

note: typed this rant before my coffee kicked in.

Re: Adam Lanza - CT Massacre

His mother had planned to sell the house, and this was to be there last christmas in it. 4000 sq ft. mansion, she got in the divorce settlement a few years ago. Her ex left her well off, and she didnt need to work, just take her wako kid to the shooting range. All those precious, innocent little kids all had between three to eleven bullets in them each. This is why there needs to be a ban on those assault weapons. He could have never done that amount of damage with just his two pistols. He may have gotten a few before the first responders arrived but not 26 in a matter of minutes or even seconds. I support the ban on these type of weapons, and the large clips as well.

I agree and think the Mother deserves some blame. The kid was a head case, the last thing she should have been doing was stocking her house with weapons like that.
