Bad Alternator?

Well I'm driving my Justy for another month or 2 until the snow is gone and I have more money in my bank account.

In addition to the exhaust almost falling off I'm now getting a series of engine codes:

41 - Air/Fuel adaptive control
52 - Clutch Switch
61 - Parking Switch or circuit
62 - Electric load signal
63 - Blower fan switch

Now I find it hard to believe that all these problems happened at the same time so I'm thinking that there's a problem with the electrical system.

The engine is getting more and more difficult to start even with a fresh battery. Is it possible that a dying alternator would be shorting or backfeeding the system causing all these issues.

I haven't tested the voltage when the car was running but I'll be doing that tomorrow if I can get it started. I just want to hear everyone's opinion on this issue.

BTW - the alternator is still original and is probably the only part on the Justy that has never been touched or repaired.

Question

Worth checking out David.

You have a note of the codes, so why not clear them from the memory?

When you re-connect, if the very same ones come on again, then the problems may be real.

If your voltage is wrong, then get the alternator rebuilt, cost what? $100? Cheaper than fixing these problems first.

Clear the memory again, and attend to any that represent.

Joe

aaarrrggghhh

now I can't get it to start to take it to the dealership to have it checked out.

I put the battery charger on it for now like I have been doing lately to get it started. I will probably try again in an hour or so.

Ack...the battery failed. The 850CCA battery only tested at 350. Have a new battery now and hopefully should be fine.
