Re: FT-86 (Scion FR-S)

Haters gon' hate...

They both look pretty good for production cars. I don't mean the sheet metal, fancy headlights, any of that. I mean how low the top of the hood is. The engine in there is low, really low. And I like that a lot.

Suby looks a lot more like a production version than the Scion. The Scion is "too much" for most people. "Design excess" is exactly the word for it.

BRZ is a terrible name for a vehicle.

Re: FT-86 (Scion FR-S)

I can't wait to see the Subie version in the flesh. Given the p/w ratio, small front cross section, and low overall weight, it might even be reasonably good on gas, which means I might be able justify buying one by calling it a 'commuter car' muahahaha.

I hope they rethink that racerboy wing on the production version though.

Re: FT-86 (Scion FR-S)

This just in... Pics of the production version of the Scion (Toyota GT 86).

Jalopnik gallery.

It's improved, but I'm still not a fan of the front end, nor the 3 creases at the rear wheel arches. At least they resolved the Corvette wannabe side scallops.

Re: FT-86 (Scion FR-S)

Looks better, I don't love the front end either but I think it might look better in black with the grill less prominent.

Re: FT-86 (Scion FR-S)

I do wonder if that 6 speed RWD transmission is going to bolt up to the other Subaru motors and if it will be a desirable item.

Why did you throw an Evo into your comparison? The BRZ/Scion is more comparable to an Eclipse than a Lancer Evolution if you are going to select a car from Mitsubishi.

With that said, if you are in the market for a Japanese 2 door 2 wheel drive car (front or rear)... this will definitely be on the radar for a lot of buyers.

For purists.... what more could you want?

Boxer Engine - sits lower and 10" further rearward in the engine compartment because there is no front wheel drive train to get in the way. Better weight distribution.

Engine is NA - nice power band and no turbo lag.

Rear Wheel Drive - Nothing to be said here, really no other way to go for a sports car.

Light weight - Under 3000 pounds these days is a move in the right direction for a car like this.

I can only imagine it is a blast to drive.

Re: FT-86 (Scion FR-S)

Have I been sleeping or is this the first time I've seen the front-facing intake setup, splitting the A/C and Alternator? Wouldn't surprise me.

Intake is turned around to get the engine tucked further back in the engine compartment! Now there is more room up front.

I've seen Impreza guys do this to assist in better intercooler pipe routing.
