Another gas mileage thread

After some searching it appears people are getting a wide range of average mileage to the gallon on their svx's. I've read some getting 15 mi/gallon to 31 mi/gallon. I was trying to gauge where my svx was compared to others.

I recently drove 465 miles (mostly highway) and could have gotten more if i hadn't feared stalling out on the highway. I am using the highest octane available at gas stations (91/93). Anyone else in this range?

When I drove across the states a year ago I averaged 28 to 30 mpg with s loaded svx and with a 5spd. Driving around town I get a mixture of 19 to 21 depending on if I do more city. You seemed to do decently.

Re: Another gas mileage thread

I had to drive ALOT this past week with my son Nick coming home for a short visit.
Two trips to Pittsburgh PA, a round trip to see my son Dave in Norfolk VA.
On one trip at mostly 72-75 MPH, in a 4.44 Pearlis, 336 miles shown, but 318 actual miles,
(4.44s have a built in 5.5% error unless you put on taller tires)
11.9 gallons of corn fouled premium, 26.76 MPG
The trip back trip back got us 25.something something.
The last trip includes some city driving as well;
303 miles shown, 287 actual miles, 13 gallons premium, 22.09 MPG.
Stock exhaust, and LANs TCU and ECU stage 1 agressive chip.
236,000 miles on the car.

Re: Another gas mileage thread

Forgot to mention I have BBS rims so my tires are slightly bigger.

225/45/r17 Not sure if it makes a difference just throwing it out there. I should see a slight increase in MPG now that my A/C idle pulley bearings decided they no longer want to be confined. they wanted to explore the engine bay.

Re: Another gas mileage thread

Your new tires are 3.3% taller, roughly. So, your actual milage should be 3.3% greater than you think.

Original Fitment Proposed Fitment

width 225 mm width 245 mm
aspect ratio 50 % aspect ratio 45 %
wheel diameter 16 in wheel diameter 17 in
offset 50 mm offset 50 mm

original diam. 24.86 in proposed diam. 25.68 in

Potential Fitments: Geometry Calculations:
tire aspect wheel change in ride height 10.5 mm
width ratio diam inwards add'l width req'd 10.0 mm
245 40 17 outwards add'l width req'd 10.0 mm
255 30 18 add'l total tire height 20.9 mm
265 20 19 add'l vert clearance req'd 10.5 mm

Instructions: additional rolling diameter 65.7 mm
Change values in boxed cells change in drive ratio 3.3 %
to see effects of tire fitment
changes. Unboxed cells show Speed Calculations:
resulting geometry. Hold the speedometer reading actual speed
cursor over inputs or results to 120 kph or mph 124.0 kph or mph
view associated pop-up help. desired speed speedometer reading
Note to TRX owners: 100 kph or mph 96.7 kph or mph
TRX 390 mm = 15.35 in.

But I also have a 3.90 drive ratio does this make a difference?

Re: Another gas mileage thread

High teens/high twenties for me, as always. At somewhere between 1/4 to 3/4 tank I top-off alternately with 87 octane regular or 93 octane premium. Stock everything. Non-pampered daily drivers.

Occasionally the mileage I record for a given distance comes within a few tenths of identical to a previous run. With such consistency I figure I'd know pretty quick if some subtle something were to go wrong with the car.

Re: Another gas mileage thread

I'm in a very flat state and I'd say I do 50/50 highway:street driving. I'm getting 17-18mpg, and I'm babying it. But I have some weird issue(s) I'm trying to clear up and hope that it fixes my mileage too.
