"The bearings I use aren't available. But the same manufacturer has a new version of the bearing you should be able to get. The manufacturer is king engine bearing in Isreal. The part number of the new bearing is cr4125si. Try calling summit racing and asking them to order the standard size for you. Those are ej22 bearings so you'll need two sets of course. King engine bearing also makes excellent main bearings if you want to replace your main bearings. Again, two sets of ej22 bearings will do it for you."

This is the PM LAN sent me when I asked him where to get them now that he stopped carrying them. (I hope he doesn't mind that I posted it.) I'm emailing Summit racing now to see if they can get them.

If I can't get those then I'll order some of the ACL HX bearings that Bazza used. He posted the part number in some thread.

Re: Ice's fully-baked turbo build

Ok I went ahead and ordered the main bearings (KGB-MB5234AM) from summit. I'll let you know when they email me back about the rod bearings.

Re: Ice's fully-baked turbo build

Yes that is what I was looking at as well after reading his build. Thanks very much for the info!! Also those are standard size, how are you going about setting up the clearances?

Looking excellent.

Setting up the clearances I will have the machine shop do. But there should be no reason the standard size won't work, the engine was in running condition when I started.

Re: Ice's fully-baked turbo build

Well they emailed me back and said that they could special order them for me and they're only like $18 per set. So I finally ordered bearings. Thanks for ending my procrastination.

Re: Ice's fully-baked turbo build

Glad I could inadvertently be of some help. Standard size makes sense now (having a known, good running motor before the rebuild). I pulled my engine from a car I'd never heard run, so I'm going to have to measure up the crank and see if standards will work. I might just get it ground .010 undersize so that its a tighter fit with new .010 undersize bearings.

Also, did you happen to get a part number for the rod bearings that were special order? Or do I just need to email them and they'll figure it out.

Thanks for all the information, it will be very helpful!

cheers

Re: Ice's fully-baked turbo build

Ok, got the bearings. I'm relocated temporarily to my parents' house until we buy a new house, so about 90% of my car stuff is in storage until then. The short block and heads and the parts for them are here with me though, so I'll be taking the engine to the machine shop ASAP so that hopefully it will be done by the time we move and I can actually start doing my part of it then.

Re: Ice's fully-baked turbo build

Ok, the stuff is at the machine shop and they're working on it. They called me today and said that the CP pistons didn't come with circlips. The Subaru part number that I was able to find for them was 805323040. That's for the newer 23mm wrist pins of the EJ20x and EJ25x, and also the number that supersedes the one I found for the EJ22s. Our wrist pins are also 23mm, so it ought to be the same. I'm going to have them order some in the morning, but if someone could confirm that it's the right number, that would make me feel a lot better.

805323040 is the part for the circlip for all EG's and EJ's. I'm still obviously running stocky pistons but replaced all of these a short time ago. They should cost $0.91 ea... I bought 24 lol.

CP's usually don't come with rings, which is also good as you use the Subaru ones as they're far better (that's if you don't like blow by of course)! Although I see you've got Wiseco rings - they should be fine.

Re: Ice's fully-baked turbo build

Sh*t just got real folks. The engine builder just called and said that it's done and ready to be picked up.

Re: Ice's fully-baked turbo build

Just some quick pics I took last night. We'll call this the "before paint" set, because I am planning on painting it pretty soon.

I had been hoping to get a chance to go to the machine shop to have a look at the insides of the shortblock while it was taken apart, but they put it together quicker than I expected (not complaining, lol). So I don't have too much engine porn for you guys to look at.

To recap, what's inside it:

CP 9:1 forged pistons
STi rods + ARP rod bolts
ARP head studs
Cometic headgaskets
King silicon/aluminum rod/main bearings

The rest is yet to come. I mentioned before, but most of the rest of the engine is in storage, so I can't really do any assembly for a while.
