Update: I did some research. Though Pennsylvania doesn't cover sexual orientation under the hate crime laws, New Jersey does.
This would be considered a hate crime.

All of that is inconsequential until you hit the courtroom. Truth told, is this any different if it happens in Jersey, PA, or anywhere else?
The bottom line is, it's a crappy thing to do.

This popped into my head today for no apparent reason with the thought - we all instantly assumed the perp was a male breeder. What if he was an ex boyfriend of the roomate who knew this exact thing would really hurt him?
