Re: Outback towing
I think that is how most feel about it. It could do it but I would not be surprised if the brakes at least need replacing.

Re: Outback towing
Just remember to use the transmission to assist in braking when going down the bigger hills and don't ride the brakes and you shouldn't have any problems. I wouldn't go much over 55mph if even that fast. Just take it easy and don't push the OB or yourself.

I have a feeling if I had to do it I could but I want to get this over with as soon as possible. I'm going to upgrade my AAA to 200 miles of coverage and enjoy the view of an SVX in front of me rather than behind, smoking the brakes and or clutch. Thanks to all for the advise. Now I know why people buy trucks to haul their crap. A local towing company quoted me $800 I could have gotten 4 svxii for that much!

Michael, just take that bet and you got your tolls paid for. $800 just means they didn't want to do it. I'd suspect you could get it moved for under 1/2 of that if you searched a little harder. Heck for $800 I'd think you might be able to get Jerry to come move it for ya. You're not getting AAA to tow the car back are you? i would doubt they would do it as I'm sure it isn't registered or tagged, plus it isn't like you can just say the engine went on it. I also think they have a waiting period after you upgrade your memership. Hocrest would know better. He's one of their worst members.

Re: Outback towing
glad you didn't do it with the outback. AAA pays for itself in the tow alone.

I dropped AAA years ago when they didn't pay for a tow for my cycle as it isn't transportation but rather a recreational vehicle. I guess they must subscribe to the Harley and Farley mentality of motorcycles.

Re: Outback towing
I doubt AAA will tow this. I suggest renting/borrowing a truck and trailer. I've seen people tow heavy cars with Legacies, but, you 'd be ambling up hills under the speed limit most likely.

Re: Outback towing
I got AAA to tow my car without tags, and it ran (broken front diff). The driver was pissed as there was 2 feet of snow, and he had "better things to do". I reminded him he was getting payed, and he did not even have to climb under it since I could drive it on the bed. Come to think of it the guy was an ass, but my logic prevailed and he took it with no more negative banter.

When I had AAA and my Outback broke down on day 2 of our relationship, I waited over an hour to be picked up by a tow guy that I would have called anyway. I was picked up, the 'mileage' cost the same that the 'tow' would have cost me if I would have just called the guy and said that I was paying it, but I wouldn't have had to wait till AAA called back!

Just found this on another forum and it seemed fitting for this thread...

But that is probably under 2000 lb for car and trailer...
