Outback towing

What are the odds of towing an SVX without an engine behind a 2.2 litre Outback on a dolly?

How far?? I've seen outbacks towing a trailer with a 5,000# Track car, (RR inspection car) before. Blew my mind, and I even drive Outbacks. I don't think I would pull that much weight though!

Re: Outback towing

On a dolly? No tranny either then I guess.
I towed an SVX on a trailer with my GMC 1500 and it seemed like quite a heavy load, more than my 18 foot Bayliner boat.

I usually strap them to my 2500 GMC Sierra

Re: Outback towing

Odds of survival depend on the terrain. If its not flat, you will overheat the engine on climbs and overheat the brakes on descent. The SVX (and dolly) far exceed the safe tow weight thats listed in your manual. 2.2L barely moves the car by itself....

Re: Outback towing

for the record I think it could do it but you would have to be a VERY well skilled trailer driver.

But I would add...the beating the car will take to do it might not be worth it.

Some people think fire looks good on an Outback....

Re: Outback towing

You'll be fine, just as hocrest said a little weak on the brake pedal so keep those speeds down. I have towed about 2k with our GT with out issue. A fellow TIVVER tows his Vixen (1800lbs) on a duel axle Uhsul car hauler with surge brakes (probably another 1800lbs as those things are HEAVY). around the country to meets.
