Here is something for you to try. The driver's door probably gets use from the key all the time, but the passenger door rarely ever. The passenger door lock and the boot lock tend to get very stiff with dirt and grunge. In fact, I once broke my key off in the boot lock because of this. You should free up the locks with penetrating oil in case this stiffness is making it difficult for the motor to operate the locks. Here is how you should go about it. Get a can of spray oil, like WD40, that has a narrow pipe nozzle. Push the key half way into the lock. Spray into the lock down along the key, using the body of the key to channel the oil into the lock components. Now push the key fully in, and operate the lock, right and left. If the lock is exceptionally hard to turn, don't force the key in case you break it. Pull it out again, put more oil on the key and repeat the process until you get the lock opening very freely. You will probably find after you have done this for the three locks that the central locking is OK. If not, remove the door card on the passenger side and check if there is a bad electrical connection, or if maybe another part of the mechanism needs oil. Joe

Re: new svx owner in france ^^
somes news about my svx.
the winter was awsome! AWD is pretty nice on snow! no problem at all! i have instaled my new brakes : very very nice braking! the car stop pretty well! one of my favorite car about braking! funny thing : i cannot install R1 concept rear discs. apparently, US rear discs are plain. but here in france, rear discs are vented! so US rear discs are thinner than EU rear discs. my rear discs are in good shape, so i dont have change it. one day, i just go to work. park the car, and go work. to my return, i just find my windshield broken! probably due to a dent on it and the temperature shock ( it was pretty cold this day ) after 3 weeks, to find one, they change it. thanks god, i was insure to glass breaks. because the windshield cost 2200€ ( 2.977$ ) i dont realy know the shape of the engine. so it's time revise it. so i have buy : - complete timming belt kit - all accessory belts - air filter - new oil filter - new fuel filter - sparks - oil just waiting to have the time to do it. for my christmas, my best friend buy me this : thats so nice! i love it! better than the crappy subaru badge i have! but for now, my front axles are dead. and it's unfindable in france. so i'm under trying to send it to an french axle repairer because it's impossible to find a new one. i'm really sad. and there, somes pics of it. he's crappy but look nice when he's clean! and here, as gift, one picture of my babies ( the both are under revision! ) see ya! |

Re: new svx owner in france ^^
Hi Naru
Your car looks really nice and looks to be in good condition. You should buy your timing belts and accessory belts in the USA because they will be much cheaper than in France. If you can describe accurately exactly what is the symptom with your "dead" front axles then it is highly likely that some technical SVX owner can give you a good idea what will be needed to repair the gearbox [or repair the axles] {I do appreciate the conversion between French and English has subtle difficulties} Remember, as far as we know the Subaru SVX in France has exactly the same type of gearbox that the USA cars were fitted with, the ACT4 gearbox. This is relatively good news for you because there is a wealth of information on the Network about the USA style gearbox. Can you describe precisely what is wrong with your front axles? Joe

Re: new svx owner in france ^^
And I offer FREE French to English translation if you want
Il se peut que ton differentiel avant est endommage et pas les axes. Si tu entends click-click-click quand tu tournes la direction et la voiture est en marche, ca veux dire que le probleme est avec les axes avants. Sinon, c'est peut etre le diff. Translation: The problem with your car could be coming from the front diff and not the axles. If you can hear click-click-click while steering the car, that means the problem is in the axles. If not then you might be having a front diff problem. Seriously now, I don't think damaged axles can cause the car not to run anymore... he really might be having another issue here.

Re: new svx owner in france ^^
Thanks Danny.
Sounds to me like his front diff is gone too, but it will require an accurate description from Naru about what are the symptoms before we can make relevant suggestions. Joe

Re: new svx owner in france ^^
hi hi !!!
so, about the front axles. u know, i'm airplane mecanic. and my favorite hobby is repair cars! lol so i know whats the sympthom of an dead axle. AND it's an dead axle! when turning wheels at full angle, during accelering, heavy CLAC CLAC CLAC to the right side. after lift the car, the both boots are dead, means no grease at all. and the best, if u grab the axle, there's a lot of play. i mean, you can move it! it's the tripod thing near the wheel hub. and about my " clean up" parts, i have already all! theses parts are easy and cheap, unless it's the same on other cars! i have just buy the timming belt in US because realy more cheap than french car parts sellers. i just wait my vacation to put theses on my lady. thanks to you all! |

We don't doubt your knowledge or mechanical aptitude, we are only trying to help. What you are describing now is damaged CVs [joint constant de vitesse] and the fix is new or remanufactured axles. The term you used "dead axles" could possibly be interpreted as meaning no drive to the front wheels, which could mean a front differential problem. Here in Ireland or England we would tend to say you had a damaged or broken CV drive. In the USA they might say you have a busted axle. In Australia, who knows? They would probably say the bastard front axles gone walkabout. I don't know for sure if Legacy front axles would work for you as a replacement. They might. If so they would be cheaper and easier to find. Joe
