valve seals???

ok so my girlfriends 92 is blowing a little bit of blue smoke.... first thing that came to mind was rings....but i was talking to my tech teacher and he said he would check valve seals first..... what do you guys think? and to do valve seals would i have to take the engine out????

my 92 needs valve cover gaskets... would i need to tear the engine out to do that as well?

Bobby

It could be one of several things. Is the smoke at idle or on acceleration? It's Just Eric's 94 L had bad valve guide seals and would smoke on startup. My 92 Ebony has weak rings and blows blue smoke on acceleration occasionally.

Yes, absolutely

No, it can be done in the car though it can be difficult the first time.

Answered your questions in the quote.

Re: valve seals???

Like mike said. When valve seals go bad, usually oil will seep down the valve and into the combusion chamber, and be burned on startup. Unless the valve seals are really really bad, I see smoking during acceleration being more ring-related.
